new windscreen scam

just thought I should make everyone aware of what I believe is scam being carried out by a national windscreen company. I took my car to them to have a new windscreen fitted after a hgv that I was following threw a large stone up and cracked it. on examining the new screen before they installed it I informed them that it was clear and not tinted as the old screen was. I ended up arguing with 3 of the employees and ended up doubting myself and allowed them to install it as they assured me it was definitely tinted. well, guess what but it was not tinted and now I am fighting to have it replaced with a tinted one. be warned and don't fall for this scam. ray.[]

I can see you are very cross at what appears to be very poor customer service. The thing is though, what you have written would be libellous unles you have concrete evidence that will stand up in court. THe very best I think you could prove would be incompetence and lack of product knowledge, especially if they close ranks and deny you ever questioned the tint. Do you know for certain. and can you prove, that their part number did not indicate a tinted screen and they fitted it anyway, or could they just be mistaken in their belief that they were supplying the right part based on supplier information.
Don't get me wrong I think it is appalling that you do not have the matching screen, I would urge you to be cautious of what you accuse a leading screen replacement company of. I rather think you might run in to a brickwall, but as your insurance company will be paying for this I assume, contact them and tell them that the repair has not been carried out to your satisfaction vis-a-vie the correct tint and see what they can do. Your company will have many customers who at one time or another would require a replacement screen, so they might be able to get something done based on the belief that, that particular company was not to be recommended to its patrons as a first choice, and would be a pity if through the actions of one poorly performing (in my opinion) centre they would lose first choice status.
I just hope you dont get another stone through your window so soon after having this one done. That would be a niggle trying to negotiate a tined screen for the obviously untinted one.
You might also try another franchise, there are many, and try to get one of them to confirm that it is not a tinted screen, and go from there. I wish you luck

Where's the libel in Ray's post? He did not name the hgv driver.

Nor did he name the glass company, he merely referred to them as 'a national windscreen company'

as above I cant see a libel there

as per advice talk to your insurers

the other thing I have found useful when dealing with clowns is WHICH legal whom you join for a fee but basically you get unlimited legal consumer advice either via email or phone though you do the letter etc just mention this as a back stop if you find you arent getting anywhere

I would add for future reference , I did have problems when my screen was installed by a national installer in my C2, when the turbo got done I used the glassman( i cannot recommend him highly enough) and although I paid a bit extra it was done exactly as it should be and done at home not some palaver about porsches being to diffcult and you need our specialist technician yada yada yada
