New year and all.....

Time for a new motor?

Have been eyeing this up, need to make a trip to northway to get my book stamped up seeing as I forgot to take it at my last service, and I think I will take a look at this.

Still love the look of my c2 and she's still running great, so is it worth the upgrade? Part of me says it's two steps up, a c2 to a c4 and then an S, but that said, the 996 GT3 mk1 is my all time fav looking motor (apart from the spoiler) so not sure.

I think the thing is, my car is 12 years old now and has 113k on the clock, so I'm thinking a few years newer and less mileage would be good.

I suppose what it boils down to is whether it is worth parting with 10k and my car, as I doubt I will get any more than that in PX for a 3 year newer half mileage car? OR is it better the devil you know?

If I keep mine this year I am going to renew all suspension and brakes just because I want to, and a few other bits to make it totally mint, I'd fit everything myself so perhaps another 2.5k for what I would have planned.

Anyway, hope you all had a great xmas and new year and opinions appreciated as always!

Cheers,

Oh yes lol, sorry little too much wine :)

Oh damn lol! I wonder when that got added on - wasn't there last week.

And happy New Year Thirteen and all :)

Going back to your original thoughts, I can't see that a C4S is two steps away from your C2 - there is no reason why it shouldn't be one. The thing is, I think you would probably need more than £10k to upgrade from your C2 to that C4S. I know that you have lavished time and money on the car, but a dealer would probably be pricing it for sale at less than £10k, so is unlikely to take it as a trade in for more than £5-6k. You would be much better off trying to sell it privately.

It sounds like you might have itchy feet, but if not then hang on to what you have, and take advantage of the work you have done, rather than passing it on for someone else to get the benefit. If you keep it for another year (without going mad on upgrades) you won't lose much more money, as the depreciation curve is pretty flat in your case.

Of course, I didn't follow that advice - itchy feet syndrome.....

I see what you are saying.

Last year when I enquired about a c4s at RandW though they gave me a rough px figure of 9-10k on a 18k car, When I had it serviced at Northway they said about the same against a 17k car, If it's only worth 7k this year in PX though i'd rather just keep it.

I do love my C2, but it would be nice to get another 996 with lower mileage, and I thought that if I was doing that then a c4s would probably be the right step to take.

There are several around with quite a few less miles on the clock for under £10,000. Such as these:

I appreciate that yours is a particularly nice example but, if you can get £10k as a PX then I would go for it. I think the C4S would be a good choice, as it is probably the most sought after Carrera model, and will always be the most saleable.
