Hello all,

Just a little introductory post. I've just picked up my first 944:

NewPorker.jpg

which is a 1989 S2, totally standard, and has been an awful lot of fun so far, sliding around Oxfordshire's greasy roads! It's done 115k, and is pretty tidy really.

Couple of questions though - the throttle pedal has a really sticky action and a nasty habit of staying down - I've had a quick look and nothing seems amiss. The cable is fairly new and the return spring on the throttle snaps the throttle shut. When the pedal is slid off the metal arm, there's no problem - so it seems to be the plastic pedal itself...any thoughts?

Also, I'm pretty sure a rear wheel bearing is groaning - what's involved in the replacement and/or how much would a specialist look to charge?

Many thanks,
Justin.

Hi Justin, welcome on board [:D]

Sticky accelerator 'could' be caused by a slightly deformed footwell. There is a jacking point right underneath the accelerator and sometimes if the car is lifted on only that one point it bends the floor a little []

Don't worry though as it is easily remedied (though it will make you wince)

Make sure you have a nice thick piece of carpet in the footwell and tap the footwell at the base of the accelerator with a lump hammer. Don't go at it like the worlds strongest man, but if it makes no difference try a little harder.

The other thing to check is the inner part of the cable where it disappears through the bulkhead into the engine compartment. John Mcgrady from the Shetland Isles reported that his inner cable had sliced through some of the padding down there and was getting stuck on its return.

Thanks Paul.

That's interesting because one of the JZ Machtech invoices for the car from 2004 has "REPAIR FLOORPAN (DAMAGED BY AA MAN)", which made me wonder if it had been jacked up incorrectly...

Looks like I'll have to get some serious engineering tools on the case then! I've been driving with the pedal folded back under the mats and the cable action seems fine.

Justin.

Justin,
Had exactly the same problem with mine only a few months ago after a wheel balance check (up on jack obviously). A £50 throttle cable didn't sort it out but a fairly inexpensive 'adjustment' with the aforementioned lump hammer did.[]
Hope you enjoy the car.
