Newbie - Car history / leak down test / bosch hammer

hi all, my name is lee and I am a newbie, who will soon be joing PCGB - Yorkshire region.
The reason for this post is to say hi but mainly to get some help as I come to the end of my project (well the end as to say road ready).
As you can see from the photos taken of my car in the summer of 08 I took on a challenging project.
The most worrying thing about buying the car was that it had no documentation (apart from log book) regarding the history of the car.

The car is now nearly finished (don't worry I will post final photo's soon), but one of my winter jobs is to try and trace as much of the cars history as possible.

Just wondered if anyone had any tips / contacts / ideas that would make my task any easier.

Secondly I wondered where in South Yorkshire I could get a leak down test done on my car as well as get the faults cleared using the Bosch computer.

The other thing is does anyone know how much roughly both would cost?

kind regards lee

Well, I've just been trying to trace some history on my car.

I started with the DVLA (as I had a pretty good file of invoices and service history stamps) and there is a form on their website that you print off and complete and post off with a £5 cheque and in return you get the previous owner details inc addresses from the time.

The first owner of my car had it for 11 years from new and I contacted them recently and got a great email back with their memories and some history info - he even went to the factory to watch it being built, back in 1990!

Good luck and don't forget to post the finished pictures!

Hi Lee,

Welcome aboard, nice to see you on here as well as 911 UK :)

You certainly took on one hell of a project with your cab, looking at those photos. Cant wait to see how she is now!

Have you machine polished the paint work and re-furbed the leather yet? I know youve been very busy on the mechanical side of things for your posts on 911 UK.

hi chris
Had the car repainted as the old paint was past it and there were dints in the body work. I picked up some black leather seats with red piping from a guy in wales so totally changed the colour from light grey to black. I knicked my dads rs steering wheel from his 944. ha.... It has been to the upholsters for a new carpet which is black with red piping. I also put red piping on the boot carpet to match.
It then went to Strasse in leeds for the roof setting up and the electric windows sorting out.
Just put some 18" rims on it, unfortunately they are after market but they will do for now. I do have some 18" 993 turbo wheels but I like these better.
Whats left to do.
It's getting lowered this weekend and the brakes checked out. Maybe also try to get it on the computer. The fan belt light is on but the belt isn't broken. The abs light and pdas light is constantly on, as are the brake sensor lights. so need to sort that little problem.
I need a new fog light lense and the small insert pieces. I also want to put clear lights on it. Both the front and rear blowers are on constantly and stay on when ignition is turned off. Think it may be NTC sensor for rear and maybe servos for the front but need to do some research.
There are other tiny bits I want to do put they are just cosmetic. i.e change door seals and carpet retainers and powder coat the alternator fan. Also got a coulpe of wires that I need to find out where they are from.
Finally it will need a good service before being ready for the road in April.
I do have photo's of it now but want to wait until it is lowered before I put them on as it looks quite high.
Anyway got enough to keep me going for the winter...lol
regards lee

some more pics. recently lowered the front which am sure you will agree that it makes a great difference.
Was going to lower the rear today but the top nuts are a right pain to get to, therefore going to wait to get her in the garage to get them done. Although I think the car looks well like it is.
few other pics of the red piping as well which I had done along with the new carpet.

I got the splitter off of ebay, then had the body shop add it whilst it was in for the paint doing. Finishes the front end off nicely dont you think
