Newbie Exhaust Question

Chalen

New member
Hi all, firstly hi everyone - just collected my Boxster S (2001) yesterday and couldn't be happier. Apart from one thing - the rattling from the exhaust. Previous owner mentioned that this was a minor issue to do with the fastenings around the heat shield. From what I gather this is a common problem thats fairly easily resolved.

Issue is that I'm supposed to be going away in the car over the weekend - so I'm not going to get a chance to visit a specialist prior to that. Will I cause any damage by running the car before sorting out the problem? Noise is embarrasing but coming from an Elise weird noises are nothing new!

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers!

if it is the heatsheilds it can be resolved in around half an hour and six new fixing clips , screws and washers , just nip into a local indy and i'm sure they will sort it for you,

if you can get under the back end you can try remove them for the weekend but they can be a pain to get out..

Welcome to Porsche ownership - you're going to enjoy it!

The issue with the heatsheilds is not a big problem in my experience of owning a Boxster for nearly six years. At the moment there is little vibration from mine but in the winter with a cold engine, even with new fixings, the noise is more marked. However, I'm sure it sounds worse to the driver than others! I suggest you get it fixed when it is convenient - it will not take long, although it can be awkward.

Thanks for the replies. There's an indy not too far from me so I'l try & pop in tomorrow if poss. Otherwise I'll try & remove them temporarily.

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to cause more damage by ignoring it for the weekend!

Cheers
