Hi folks. I'm currently looking into purchasing a Cayman and was wondering if you lot could give me some pointers as to what to look for.

I currently have a Mitsubishi Evo 9 GT running 421BHP.

I will have a budget of around £30,000.

Recommendations would be much appreciated! [;)]
 
Cheers pal! I've already been on there. Some nice examples. I just really wanted to know what spec to go for. Cayman S or standard? What gearbox? What engine? Any other extras to consider? Thanks again!
 
Definitely an S, manual gearbox only :) It won't blow you away like a 421bhp Evo, but the handling is something sublime. Give it a week or so and it will work it's way under your skin :) Extras to look for based on driving style really - my suggestions would be 19" wheels - they give slightly better turn in and feel, but you need PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) if you go this route. If this ends up busting the budget, there is hardly anything wrong with 18" and the standard shock set up! See if you can drive both and see your preference. Sport Chrono - you will want the faster throttle response if you are used to the Evo. Xenon headlights - great if you do any night driving. The rest of the options are just for your own preference - full leather, sports steering wheel etc etc etc :) The best thing to do is look at a few and decide from there. hth
 
Don't rule out a 2.7 if you can find one witht the sport pack which included PASM suspension and the 6 speed gearbox - the extra cog makes better use of the lower torque of the 2.7. An S is always preferable of course. the best handling is from the stock suspension and 18" alloys. 19s are too harsh a ride for some, although you can compromise by looking for one with PASM and 19s which gives you electronic suspension and a comfort setting. the good news is 20k miles/2 year servicing - somethign you'd never get with an EVO !. In the used market options add little to value so don;t get carried away paying for things you don;t need. PCM satnav migt look nice int he dashboard but it'll cost you £400 every few years to keep it up to date. Your budget might get you a 55 plate car from an independent such as rsjsportscars. Porsche warranty is always nice to have but the cost and the red tape that surrounds it need consideration before assuming its a must.

Whilst intermediate shaft failure doesn't so far seem to have affected the Cayman i wouldn't necessarily assume the design flaws have been overcome - something else to be mindful of.
