hi every1, the miss`s has just had a boxster on a t plate. a problem has started with the windows and the roof, while drivig the windows will just go down on their own and now the roof doesnt go down. it will every now and then but only when it feels like it.

it was brought privitly so no warrenty, im hoping its just a relay or sensor.

if anyone could please help.

There is a limit switch sensor in the windscreen header rail, where the latch fits - this controls the roof operation and the raising of the windows after the latch is closed. the switch lies within the latch receptable above the rear view mirror - try pushing the switch a few times with a biro - it might be lazy, or intermittent failing. The other likely culprit is the switch under than handbrake, as this needs to be engaged for the roof to operate too..

However, do not rule out a weak battery - these cause all sorts of electrical gremlins - a decent Bosch or Porsche battery is good for 4 years, so a 99 car could well be in need of a third battery by now.

Good luck, and congrats on the purchase

Failing batteries manifest themselves in all sorts of ways -sometimes engine related, sometimes convenience electrical systems like windows.

There is an electronic box under the passenger seat, so if the carpets are (or have been) wet through failing door membranes (carpet on bottom half of door trims gets wet), or blocked drains, then this could also be problematic.

As you are new to the car i'd suggest checking the drains under the battery cover and rear clamshell next weekend (if these are blocked , rain water will build up and find its way into the cabin causing wet carpets), and also have a look for debris in the outer corners of the front radiators (road debris builds up and rots the air con rad sat in front of the engine rad) - debris can be vacuumed out with a long nozzle on a household vaccuum cleaner, or a more thorough job remove the front bumper to gain better access. A search on either of the above subjects should yield more detail.
