Good morning one and all.

A complete newbie wanting to join the fold of Porsche, so thought I should say Hi and introduce myself.

I live in Derby and have been a Ferrari nut all my life. Not able to afford anything from the new collection, but really wanted something along the 348 or 355 styling. Always kept an eye on the Porsche's though and found one that I fell instantly in love with. Cayman in Red (Ferrari connection), took it for a test drive yesterday with the good lady and have placed a deposit. Now in the process of arranging some finance and hoping to get it on the road in a couple of weeks.

Should I be adding some pics when she finally arrives ?

Really looking forward to getting tips/advice etc from you guys and looking forward to perhaps managing to get along to some of the meetings.

Thanks guys, just waiting on some final details to be completed and then hopefully it is off on the open road with a huge smile I shall try and get some pics up, however they are not all that good as I ended up taking my phone instead of the camera. Behind the joke, there is some truth. Porsche were originally known for making light agile cars which drove well, even though they were not always the most powerful in thier class. Fast forward to an era of Panameras and Cayennes and 911's which are large and heavy and accessorised up to the hilt, and you could argue that a simply specced 2.7 Cayman has more in common with the original Porsche DNA that most of their other cars. And in a world of speed cameras and traffic, it has more than enough poke for everyday use, while still out handling anything else on the road. Even 3 years on, I still think the 2.7 Cayman is the best car made. [;)]

Thanks for that John, I found the Cayman literally by accident and once I saw her in the "flesh" I knew she was a stunning car. We are looking to buy her for me to use on a regular day to day commute, which I believe the Cayman, indeed Porsche are. Always been a huge fan of Ferrari but you cant have one of those as a daily used car, so the Cayman is just ideal. Really cant wait for things to move on and collect her. Named here Didi after Didi Hamman, she is Red and German... Got to have a link in there somewhere ? Chris

I guess we all lust after Ferraris and the like, but the truth is that the modern ones have capabilities that are HUGELY in excess of what we can use on todays roads. This was graphicly demonstrated to me recently when a friend took me for a blat in a Gallardo LP 640. Touch the loud pedal for more than a few seconds and you were in jail sentence territory. I no longer see the fun in driving something you cannot use. Remember too that is you teleported the 2.7 Cayman back 30 years and compared it to the supercars of the day that we lusted after then, it would wipe the floor with all of them. A sobering thought. Enjoy your car, I certainly enjoy mine! [:)]

Very true John, The one I was seriously looking at was a nice 348GTB but dont out as a Competizione. Stunning to drive but my god, no power steering !!!! One thing that did turn my head towards Porsche was the fact you can park them in public, without some idiot wanting to key it or such like. Which makes me even more determined to have this cheeky little red number lol. Have seen the photo of your car John and it looks stunning. From new too I see ?? Lucky you indeed lol.. Chris

Disaster [:(] For some unkown reason I have been refused credit ??? Something to do with experia and credit safe and as I am in the armed forces, do not have any credit cards or outstanding balances owed to anyone. Coupled with the last 8 loans being paid off well before their time, my credit rating is so poor that nobody will offer anything. Would not mind as we had £5,000 to put towards the car in the first place. So sadly and with heavy heart, we have cancelled the order. Then this morning, the missus gets a letter through saying the money is ready if she wanted it. Ever feel like someone is trying to tell you something ?? Never mind, it only means I will have to put these plans to rest for a while. With a view to purchasing in a few months time. Thanks for all the advice and tips, it is very much appreciated and I look forward to hearing more about Forum meetings etc. Chris and Shell

Doesn't that tell you everything you need to know about this ridiculous stupid country [] A man serving his country is refused money, on the grounds that he is NOT in debt! AAARGGH! [] Hope it all works out for you in the end mate! JH

Thanks to the wife, you cant keep a good man down... Put a deposit on this this evening, looking to collect Weds...

Cheers John, Thought we would never end this sorry torrid story lol. The missus did us proud though, waltzed in to the dealership and started the "sales rep" talk. Knocked a grand off with 12 months warranty and 12 months MOT too. Chuffed to say the least lol. More sleepless nights ahead me thinks lol.. Never been so excited about a car period. And I have had my fair share of them lol... Chris and Shell

Just received the phone call... Collection this evening from Nottingham... Am as excited as a very excited person on a very very exciting day...

Thank you Gary, got a bit of pain to go through first though. Physio session this afternoon in Lincoln.... Ouch lol.. Chris

Took Didi,,, as he is known for a run to RAF Wittering this morning for work. Almost brought the station to a stand still when booking her in. Almost 80 plus miles on country roads, a drive I have made many a time and have to admit, just how sweet it holds the road. I also love the sound even though its the 2.7 engine, but to me its like heaven. We used to have the new SLK before and although that was sweet for other reasons, this thing just brings huge smiles time and time again. It even makes me look like I am a half decent driver. Many more miles to enjoy this weekend, as we are going to Manchester to do some Reef and Coral Fish shopping. Happy days and please no rain, I like the shiny thing as it is... Chris
