Hi folks. Im looking to buy a 996 and looking for advice (dont do it i hear some say!)
I know about the RMS saga but am willing to take a chance hoping that depreciation
on the 99 models will slow down soon.Im fancying a cab and winter is usually the best time to buy. What should i look out for and what options are best for touring as the main use. cheers, john

If your looking at the Cab, then heated seats and aircon..
The Wind deflector is invaluable..

Buy well and the 996 is still one of the best Porsches ever, and one of the world's finest sports GTs.

The ideal criteria would be:
- UK OPC supplied and serviced
- Low(ish) mileage
- Low no. of owners
- Immaculate condition (no major accident repairs)
- Nice colour combination
- Fairly high spec.
- Extended Warranty
- Sensibly priced

Buying used, and depending on your budget, you may need to make some compromises.

Suggest you look at all the models in your budget (Coupe, Targa, Cab) and then judge what suits you best.

Colours and seats are personal, but 18" wheels, PSM, upgraded sound and sports exhaust are the usual 'must haves'.

Don't worry too much about depreciation, it's no worse than any other prestige car, and better than most. Buy the best car you can and thorougly enjoy it.

I think Oliver has summed it up.

I would try both coupe and convertable so that you can see which one you prefer. Also if you find the right one then speak to the OPC if serviced by them to find out about the history they will be able to send you a full report on what has been done, it will make very intresting reading.

Also i would advise you to take the car to a OPC for the 111 point inspection if you are buying it privately or of cause from a specialist or trade. You can look around the car and speak to the mahanic while they are doing the inspection to get there opinion.

Be patient stick to what you want IE, Colour spec etc. Depreciation happens on all cars and if you bought a brand new performance car lik a Z or s2000 and there not 911 material, you would loose more unless it was somthing very rare.

I have a book by Peter Morgan which is all about buying a second hand 996 you can borrow it if you wish. My email is sales@promotor-uk.com or 07841 511 592.

Good luck

Phil
