Planning the purchase of my first Porsche and am wondering about a few things.

Manual or Tip?
I know the manual v Tip is a personal thing and I intend to test drive both to help that decision

But C2 or C2S? I was planning on C2S so as to get PASM and xenons, my thinking being that PASM give the best of both worlds on suspension - sport for when alone and enjoying myself but soft for when cruising with wife on the motorway. My question; is the standard C2 suspension the same as C2S in normal mode or is C2 softer than both C2S settings?

Satnav. I note some mention of traffic on some satnav, how do I make sure I get this function? Is there really no way you can get speed cameras into it?

Also if the PCM system has the phone buttons (in Gen I, numbers, dial etc on the left of screen?) does that mean it has a phone module fitted?
 
Manual or Tip really is down to personal choice and how you plan to use the car, in a city most days then a tip is probably a good option

Sadly there is no way I know or have heard of in order to add safety camera to the PCM [:(]
The traffic system for the UK was missing from the early cars but is just a simple software upgrade in order for it to be operational.

I'll leave the other question to those that have the experience of them cars, mind you I agree with the options ideas and I love the PASM

PASM is superior to the standard suspension and offers a variable stiffness to the setup in each of its two modes depending on your driving attitude. To answer your question, PASM Normal is both sportier and more accommodating than standard suspension, depending on your driving and the road surface - hurl it at the corners and it'll stiffen up, pootle about and it'll wallow along with you. Very much recommended. You'll only use the sport mode on very well surfaced twisties as it is race track stiff. I leave mine in Normal 99% of the time and I like a sporty ride - who doesn't :)

Manual or Tip is a personal matter but a Porschephile will insist manual is the only way to go. I have manual and don't find it a hassle in town. I like to be involved and, if you do too, Tip and even PDK will leave you cold.

SatNav - no possibility of speed camera warnings but only the earliest 997s lack TraffInfo, which I believe can be incorporated by a software upgrade.

The phone buttons are part of the standard PCM and are not a guarantee that the telephone module is installed. If there is a phone module you will need a second SIM card to avoid swapping it out of your phone every time you get in the car. In 997 gen2 cars the PCM3 is a huge improvement and has a superb Bluetooth interface.

Enjoy choosing, C2S is a lot better than C2 in 997 gen1, not so big a difference in gen2.

I have had a C2 before and now have the C2S ( both Gen1) and the difference is quite alot. Not just the spec but the whole car feels more together, if that makes sense. If you can get into a C2S, go for it.

That hits the nail on the head IMHO. I tried both and the ride on the S seemed to be to be so much better than the standard C2. As has been said above, chances of using Sport in the UK is limited and even though I came from a Lotus Elise (and expected to be using Sport a lot), I have never found the requirement for Sport on UK roads In Normal mode the S 'adapts' perfectly for any occasion that I have found on the road.

I can understand that the sum of the (extra) parts might not lead one to to choose the S automatically, but I am certainly glad that I went the extra bit.
