Newbie seeks help...

Hi,
I'm considering buying a 944, and was wondering if anyone in the Plymouth, Exeter or Bodmin area is willing to show me around theirs and point out the common faults. I have checked out several buyers guides, which have been very useful in narrowing down which model to aim for, but I haven't even found one for sale in the area yet to check out. I'd also like to see what a good one is like so I recognise one when I see it!

Also, I'm quite tall so I'd like to make sure I can fit in one before I spend time and energy looking for one.

If you want to show your car off to me, I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers

Darren

I am in Okehampton, and would be willing to show you mine. (However I am a bit of a mechanical numpty so dont ask technical questions ! ) PM me.

Yes unless you are seriously tall I would think you will be fine. Only slight proviso is the early square dash cars are a more cramped for the drivers legs, both because of the dash shape and the position of the steering wheel.

Im 6' 3" and I weigh over sixteen stones. I can easily fit into a series one 944 / 924S and I dont even have to slide the seat back to get in and out of a series two 944 or 968 with comfort seats (with Recaro PPs or sports bolsters I do need to slide the seat back but its not a major inconvenience). Theres actually far more leg room than I need, so unless youre over 6' 8" or have freak-like long legs you wont have a legroom problem. You may want to fit an aftermarket steering wheel, boss and spacers if youre extremely tall though, as you will be forced to stretch to the wheel.

Thanks for all your useful advice. MRGT very kindly showed me over his beautiful 944S yesterday evening, and I am sold. I can fit in it, my surfboard can fit in it and that's the most important thing.

The search begins in earnest.

Thanks Howard, really appreciated your time and knowledge.

Thats good to know as have always fancied a square dash 944 but was concerned about the leg room issue (or non-issue !) ..one day perhaps.

Good luck in your hunt !

Keep asking questions, there are chaps here a lot more knowledgeable than me [:D]

Good luck with the search.

Good start - you have found the best place for 944s on the net even if it (sometimes correctly) is called the madhouse!

My email is windsumike@aol.com but I've not even tried to get my kit in!

I'm about 6'6" and drive an S2, I have the seat all the way back but it's about the comfiest car I've had. The only prob for me is that the steering wheel is a bit too low and not adjustable. No problem with headroom either.
