Hello all, I'm picking up this early '98 996 3.4 C2, later this week, after a few years away from Porsche ownership.

Had a borescope done at Hartech before agreeing the deal & no bore scoring or cracking evident, so I'll try not to have too many sleepless nights!

Slightly cliched combination of silver with black leather interior. Car is early 3.4 C2 (cable throttle) with MO30 (recently refreshed), sports seats & LSD. Has been a Hartech car for over 10 years on their scheme & has had new clutch & flywheel in last 4 yrs, brand new MO30 suspension in last 2.5yrs/10k miles.
Had a nosey around underneath it when it was on the ramps & apart from a slight oil weep from the cam chain tensioner, it's extremely clean with minimal corrosion to any of the components. I was pleasantly surprised, as it is a 17yr old car after all

Hi Nick & welcome back
Slightly different drive than you previous Porsche's.
I'm sure you will enjoy the 996

Original 18" Sport Design alloys are a little tired & will benefit from refurb, but I've certainly seen worse & they're not a priority right now.

Best thing is the A4 ring-binder contains reams & reams of Hartech & earlier OPC invoices & it's obvious that it has been loved & well maintained over the years & been used as daily driver for most of last 10yrs, so owners have had to stay on top of the maintenance or any niggles. Interior is in nice condition & even the A/C is nice & cold.

Now there's an idea! Is it a PCGB trackday?

Yes. Bring a lid if you want some p/x rides and tell your old man to bring his too. [;)]

Oh and Sifly should be there too with his 996 track car which will give you some ideas for the future. [8D]

NOTE: I do use this forum -Mr Youngman Brookes[&o]-admit to have been in on the act-actually went & had a test drive in a '99 996 C2 manual but it needs a lot of TLC internally-was in it's early miles well looked after with shed loads of £'s by a Clive Simpson in the Glasgow area-is he on here?-however got 142K miles on it & although the vendors have offered 1 reduction it's still not cheap enough for the possible risk entailed-drove well though-would trickle along at 30 mph in 6th so a real performance car![:D]

I know you do Colin...hence the [;)]

Best keep looking for that perfect 996 because they look like they're starting to edge up in price. Don't delay or you might miss the boat!

Worth a look?

So, after an inspection at their premises, the 'kettle' has now been formally accepted back onto the Hartech maintenance plan, thus partially mitigating any sleepless nights & cold sweats about future problems with the engine of cheese!

Had couple of new engine mounts & track-rod ends at Unit 11 last week, with tweaked geometry, so now only thing left to do is drive it, a lot.

Off to Anglesey for the weekend, so might have to explore the Evo triangle en route... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

As a P.S to this, during the Hartech inspection, they noted that what we had thought was a slight leak from the cam-chain tensioner, was actually coming from the Air Oil Separator fitting into the engine (which are another known weak point on these cars & can either empty your sump or fill your cylinders with oil when they fail completely!). To replace these is either a partial engine drop or involves removing the inlet manifolds etc & either way, is a time consuming & fiddly job.

Off to collect car from Hartech this afternoon expecting some labour charges for that job, only to be informed that the labour for fitting the new AOS will be covered by the maintenance plan, despite them identifying it as part of the inspection.

Pleasantly surprised by that news!

Henceforth will be endeavouring to tackle most jobs myself, although the parts & labour for the annual service is covered by the monthly maintenance plan payments, so will go back to Hartech for that.

Hopefully finished with the initial jobs & can just enjoy driving it for the summer now!
