Hi everyone, I have just bought my first Porsche, a 1990 964 Carrera 4 Coupe. 86k miles, manual and in great condition.

Hi and welcome! Congrats, great looking car. Right time to buy, prices seem to go through the roof. Any more details about options and -as already said- history? If you should be interested in the RS Version also, see the 964 RS Forum. Both these forums are full of good advice, experience and knowledge (and banter). Enjoy your toy, rgds, Hacki
Thanks for the kind replies. I have looked around this site and there is a lot of great advice. I bought the car from Northway Porsche near Reading. Lots of experience there and Ray was really helpful. Regarding the history, I have every MOT since 1994, full service stamps in the book, tons of receipts dating back to 1998 and the original handbook and folder. Porsche GB were the first owners, so as they are so close, I will ask them if they have any more history on it. I have been looking for a 964 for a while and while white was probably not my first choice colour, it has really grown on me now and it looks great. The paintwork is excellent, though there are a few tiny bubbles here and there and the rear lights are faded. As you say, Winter projects! As a guide, the price was just over £21k. That seemed to be top end of what was available, but it looked the best condition and mileage. Mind you, I have seen a few over £30k recently which seems crazy. Option wise, it has the electric sunroof, full leather interior (blue with white piping), a nasty Pioneer CD player (which needs to go) and the 17" Cup 2 wheels. I have the original 1990 Model Year Price List and there is no mention of the Cup 2's as being options, so I guess these must have been added later. Would this affect the originality? I fancy the cup mirrors and Cup 1 wheels though.. Looking forward to a nice summer..

Cup 2s were not on the list in 1990, IIRC 16" was original and a rare strange looking wheel was the only option in the very beginning. Almost noone kept the original wheels, 17" is very common on a 964 and gives the car a better ride. I´d definitely keep the 1990 mirrors! Originality would be affected by changing them. (Although that was common, too.) Make sure, all the factory upgrades have been done. Your OPC (maybe a good indie also) can check that for you (e. g. vented distributor, etc.). Due to all the documents it´s very likely they are all there, but better safe than sorry. White? Great colour on a 964.
