Hi Everyone. I've just registered and have been looking at the posts. It seems these cars don't fail to impress! My RS4 is almost 2 yrs old and its been a blast......but It's time for my first Porsche!! I've had a look and think I've made my mind up on a C4S. I can probably stretch to about 10K of extra bits and I'm looking for some help with spec. Is there anything I just must have? Do I need to upgrade to bigger wheels? Not sure which will suit the 4 wheel drive best? Any help appreciated.

Welcome.
Audi RS to Porsche is a move I made and haven't looked back.
If I was choosing extras I'd base it on how much i use the car and driving style...
PSE and Sport Chrono seem very popular as does the BOSE sound system.
There are lots of Powerkit converts on here too, but that would pretty much blow your budget.
Wheels - I'd change the wheels as I'm not a fan of the stock S wheel. Not sure you would want to go bigger than 19" without it looking like something from MTV Cribs (just my opinion.)
Whatever you choose, I doubt you wll be disappointed.

pse and bose seem very popular yves et al will no doubt mention x51[:D]and that will be your 10k .my advice would be to try and find demos with diff options to find which you like/want

Blow most of your extras budget on the X51 powerkit. You're buying the car for its performance and this is greatly enhanced with the powerkit and remember it comes with the PSE anyway. For driving pleasure I recommend the short shifter and don't know how I did without it before. Next (and here goes the budget) sports seats. After that it's just toys...

I concur with Rob - if you want a cruiser thats also a backroad beast - Go X51 Powerkit, Short Shift and Sport Chrono (for the more agressive throttle settings). If there is spare cash Bose seems pretty much a must.

X51 basically splits the gap between C2/4S and the GT3, so takes 0-100 down from 10.7 to 9.7 secs, 0-125 1.6 seconds faster gives much more torque in gear especailly from 3k - 7,2k revs

Lots of seat tosh going around - Basic seats are OK and easy to live with sports seats are a nioce to have but do give a distinct edge for track days

Alloys - you've already got 19in rims you don't need any more - I like the style of the basic S, if you don't get another set of 19's at option decision time and minimise upgrade cost

Sat Nav is an important item fro resale but frankly that depends upon how long your going to keep it - lomg time and I guess the portable st Nav's have it.

Just to cause mischief and get some responses - if you are struggling with the options cost junk the 4 wheel drive and go for C2S. In most road conditions now the C2S is so good you don't really need the 4 wheel drive, good though it is. Clealry if your off roading or going to spend a lot of time on ice stick to 4 wheel drive.

Is the X51 powerkit a Porsche option? I assume it does not affect the warranty. Hi Okellyt. I chose the C4 as i've been used to the RS4 and Subaru prior? I suppose some would say i'm pussying out but I've just got used to the power being spread. Any c2 or c4 owners wish they'd opted for the other?

waltong - just being michievious. Both great drives but different - an argument over purity of steering feel and input versus slightly greater grip in corners. Its worth driving both and then decide on the one you prefer.

On a serious note traction on the C2s now is so good you would hardly miss the 4wd so its all down to personally preferred feel and driving style - as it should be

Enjoy deciding on options its a lot of fun.
 
having had a c4 i test drove the 2s and 4s997 and in my driving capabilities i couldnt fault the 2s vizaviz the safety of 4 wheel drive-it also felt more "direct" so do try both and dont assume the 2s will not hande as you need it to-you may be surprised as i was.the opc sales guy certainly chucked the 2s around in ways that i was staggered it didnt lose grip[:D][:D][:D]
 
Having had a 2 and a 4 in the past - it's a trade off of nimble vs planted.

My feeling is that most manufacturers do planted now while few do nimble. So for me, for essence of Porsche, I would favour a C2.

The C2s is lighter and cheaper and also has a front boot that can swallow a reasonable amount of luggage.
 
I had a one of the new Audi S4s (50:50 torque split) for about 6 months, bags of power and grip but sold it because it didn't like going fast around corners and just didn't excite when driving. I know with the RS4 they addressed the torque split to 40:60 to give it a rear wheel bias and I swopped S4 for CayenneS which also had the 40:60 rear drive bias which made it a king performer amongst the sports 4x4s, however with trepidation gave up 4 wheel drive for a C2S. As it was ex Porsche GB car came with everything sport biased (sport susp.-20mm, LSD, sport seats and ceramic brakes) my opinion is you wouldn't want this spec for everyday commute, but any other time there isn't another car that I would swop for it, as for C4S I managed to escape the TIPEC Thoresbury Hall show ground with 2 WD without spinning a wheel and boy was it waterlogged and muddy (eh! Gary). try them all and persuade your local OPC to get you on a test drive at Millbrook you will be well and truly hooked then.

2 wheel drive and ceramic brakes is a good idea. At least if I stack I'll stop quicker! I'll see if I can get to try both. In truth as an old git now (45) I only really drive at 8/10ths so I should be able to stay on the road....just used to the different drive 4wd provides. I'm in Kent so have Tonbridge or Stratford in the City as nearest dealers. I'm sure both will happily take my deposit but any good or bad experiences of either dealer??

You need to know what you want:
1- 4wd is not needed really unless you live in water logged / snowy parts
2- More power is definitely NOT needed unless you track you car really hard. Heavens, where can you use 355bhp anyway, and can you really control a 911 on a circuit that well to need more power?
3- Same goes for ceramic or sports chassis (-20mm), like the x51, very expensive and only recommended if you are very committed, although I wish I had that exact setup now!
4- short shift, chrono pack and sport exhaust imho is a must whatever you want to do, makes the whole thing feel special. I have sport adaptive seat, but normal sport would be ok for most
5- Sat Nav + bose needed for everyday driving + resale, neither is very good, but this is what Porsche sells you

Now if you really want to track, I would put options in the following order budget wise: sports chassis, ceramics, X51. You would still need chrono, short shift and sport exhaust (this comes standard with X51 btw). Then go to Parr or MJZ and get the suspension geared towards trackdays
