I have just recently (1 week ago) bought my first Porsche Boxster 2.7 (2003)
There are a few things been added/changed around in the car which i would like to sort beginning with the Audio system.
The car has got a Pioneer Stereo fitted which obviously isnt the original. My questions are as follows;
Under the bonnet is an amplifier, it was disconnected when i got the car and i dont want to connect it up in case there is an issue with the replacement radio/cd the door speakers dont work. Is this what the amplifier is used for?
Any suggestions as to which radio i should put back in to be able to utilse the amplifier and the 5 CD slots underdeath??
Be gentle with me as i have already had from the wife that i had a rush of blood in buying the car in the first place!!! lol (although with the roof down she did have a smile!)
Thanks for your help and advise in advance.
Regards,
Jono

Easiest option here is to report the issues to the garage you bought it from, If as you say the car should not have passed an MOT then they sold you the car in an unroadworthy condition - and you have redress for that through the sale of goods act. The garage you bought it from should cover most of the items even service items not normally covered by warranty if you have just purchased it, only obvious items you can see that are not 100% are classified as "sold as seen". What are the issues in their entirity?ORIGINAL: jsearby Hi, I cant comment on the advice side of things being a fellow Newbie apart from the following; My little beauty went for a service today and checkover..... i have just been told that despite buying from a garage and getting a full years MOT the car needs around £1800 spending on it and it should not have passed the MOT as the brake lines are shot! I also got a 12 mth warranty from the garage through Centurion who have told me none of the faults are covered! So the bit of advice i can give is, Listen to advice and unlike me get an inspection done. Although im cheesed off, i still love the car and will get the work done as it will maybe give me the chance to upgrade a few bits! Jono

I was in exactly the same situation your in with serious concerns surrounding the IMS bearing failure horror stories and dismissed the idea of purchasing one before I had even driven a Boxster. A few weeks later a customer of mine purchased a Boxster S and kindly handed me the keys. The car instantly got under my skin and within a month I had purchased a 2002 Boxster S. I plan on replacing the IMS bearing with the LN Engineering upgrade when the clutch/flywheel require replacement. There are a large number of 986 Boxsters on the road, some owners claiming 200K+ without engine troubles so I wouldn't dismiss the purchase just yet. For complete piece of mind, purchase a 986 for around £7500 and take it to a specialist and have the IMS bearing, RMS, flywheel and clutch replaced [ORIGINAL: Heathbrook A second newbie here. Hope you don't mind me joining in! I want to buy my first Boxster, and have a budget of £10k or so. I went along to my local independent Porsche man (highly recommended by my 911 owning mate) to ask for advice. He got some paper, wrote down "M96 problems" "Boxster IMS and RMS problems" and told me to google them! Interesting first meeting! He also told me he doesn't do pre purchase reports and to purchase a warranty over the Internet. After a while he agreed that I should go for a manual box, and a 2.7 as 3.2s have problems with brake corrosion. I have to say he has put me off. So I thought I would get better advice off you lot! The car will only be used at weekends and maybe a run to France every year. I note on another forum, a pre purchase inspection is recommended. I live west of Birmingham, is there anyone in this part of the world who would do this? Thanks or your help
