HI everyone.

After a bit advice?

I'm looking at buying the 3.2 manual version of the Boxter. I'm not too worried about the age as long as it has reasonably low mileage and full service history.

What things should I be looking out for and the pitfalls to avoid with this model.

Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

That's a big open ended question! Suggest you spend a while reading through the posts on here, and perhaps buy a book or two (Peter Morgan does a buyers guide). I've also written a book that might help - but I shouldn't advertise it here!

Thanks for the response. I suppose your right it was rather open ended. I know generally what I'm looking for like body panel condition and all the other bits and pieces relating to looking for a used car. I was just looking for a heads up on particular issues with the Boxter for instance the hood, the transmission, uneven tyre wear and any other frailties relating to the model..

hi, i have had mine since last year, the only things that have gone wrong on mine since iv had it is 2 lambda's ( the car has 4 ) one of the window regulators snapped ( common fault but you wont know till it happens) and breaks / break lines. with the amount of money you are about to spend one one, maybe get the aa to have a check on it? then they can plug it in on the computer and see if its showing any faults :)

Seriously, you can write a book on the topic. Peter has, buy his book: http://www.petermorgan.org.uk/shop/2/index.htm It's £10 well spent. He's also produced a DVD that goes through what to look for. As suggested above, once you've found the car you think suits your needs, get it independently inspected - Porsche specialist or AA/RAC. The cost will be minimal compared to what you COULD spend if there is something wrong!

Can't agree more about the inspection. Bob Spratley looked at my Boxster before I bought it, and it was well worth the £385 it cost. If you are having a look to SE if it's worthwhile then I would suggest: 1. Checking all the VINs match around the places in the car you can find them, and in the V5 and the service book. 2. Check the service history matches the vehicle, mileages, and if major expense items (clutch, discs/pads, IMS/RMS) have been done. 3. Does the MOT history match the mileages with service invoices? 4. When you look round the car, does it "look right"? Shut lines, paint, wheels, tyres, all compartments open and close nicely, all the electrics work without a fuss? If the seller doesn't have service invoices then I found OPCs and independents alike quite happy to provide de-identified copies.
