Hey all

Thought I'd say hello having just bought my first 911 today[:D]she is a 1989 LHD sport with sunroof, cruise and full leather which has covered just under 170000Kms in what appears to be very good condition having 3 PO's and a good service history allthough mostly in German! going to get it serviced asap to be sure though.

Not the best weather here today unfortunately so it was straight in the garage for now but can't wait to give her a spin in the week certainly feels different to the 944S2 she's replaced not helped by the fact that i sit on trhe wrong side now!! but I'm sure i'll get used to it have posted a pic of her for all to see.

Will have lots of questions I'm sure but need to go over her properly first I do however know that the sun roof cable in snapped or unattached so if anyone has any experience of this any info woulkd be gladly accepted also does anyone know if you can get polish or touch up for the slate grey leather as there are a few scuffs and scraches?.

Look forward tio chating to you all

Cheers Paul

Hi Paul,

I too was a newbie when I bought my 1986 Sport (also LHD) back in February, but you will find loads of help and information through this forum.

My car also came from Germany originally, but had been registered and used in the UK for some 8 years prior to me purchasing it.

LHD is no problem, particularly as the 911 allows you to 'hang back' from the car in front, and then when the gap appears, 'gun' her through - these cars are so smooth and flexible to overtake in, even in fifth gear.

Enjoy her,

Hi Paul,

One of the cables on my sunroof snapped earlier this year. The symptom was that the roof would drop and slide at one side a couple of inches, but remain fixed at the other, effectively rotating. The cable was £42.50 +VAT from an OPC, and it took a local specialist a couple of hours to fit it. Having looked at the mechanism, and the fiddly nature of threading the cable, I reckon it would take me a lot longer to do that, and the Pelican "101 projects for your Porsche 911" book agree. They give it a difficulty rating of 3 (out of a max of 4), and reckon 5 hours. Unless you want to spend a significant part of your weekend cramped up inside the car, swearing at bits of cable and sunroof, I'd take it to a pro, as it's not that expensive in the big scheme of things.

Cheers,

Jon
