Newby here with problems

Just bought a 997 3 weeks ago. Love the car but it has problems which I was prepared for. Replaced all coffin arms ,fork arms ,rear toe links. Knocking has now 100% gone. Had a Foxwell scanner from before but bought the Durametric Pro as well. This is where it gets weird. Scanned the car on the same day with both scanners. I get totally different codes from each.
Foxwell says both O2 sensors left bank are iffy. Durametric doesn`t mention this.
Durametric says 1 cam timing actuator no signal. Foxwell doesn`t mention this.
Durametric says fault on air bag and air recirc motor faulty. No mention on Foxwell.
When checking both timing and injection on Durametric it only logs the first 4 cylinders.
It just makes me wonder if any of these scanners are any good.

 
That sounds a bit strange. Durametric in particular have a good reputation.

I can only suggest that they could be previously uncleared codes? Try clearing the codes, drive the car for a while and see if they reoccur on both devices.

I cleared all Foxwell codes with Foxwell and all Durametric with the Durametric. Drove for around an hour. All the same codes came straight back so they are genuine.
In addition I electrically unplugged the the valve on right side of airbox that controls the flap inside and rescanned.Foxwell found it Durametric didn`t .

I did take the car to a very well respected Porsche indy when I first bought it. They gave it a clean bill of health apart from the knocking suspension bushes.Seeing that these are easy to swap I did those myself with a borrowed 4 post. Only took 3 1/2 hours for all 4 corners.
I would NEVER use a main dealer unless it was warranty work.Every car I`ve ever owned that has had to go to a main dealer for whatever reason comes out with more faults than it goes in with. Most haven`t a clue on diagnosis. If the computer says it`s ok then it must be ok.Would you believe it took Audi 17 weeks yes seventeen weeks to change a timing chain under warranty on my RS3 after which it had a monumental oil leak that wasn`t there before. I can`t see Porsche being any better.
 
All very odd! I’d be inclined to accept the Porsche Indy’s analysis. Most decent outfits have something equivalent to PIWIS and some actually have PIWIS analysers.

Take-up your complaint with the analyser suppliers?

I did with Durametric.They said their machine can only show the data it gets from the car.Not very helpful really.
No reply from Foxwell.
 
Very disappointing response, and as you say, it doesn’t give you much confidence in the products, the Durametric in particular which isn’t the cheapest on the market.


Incidentally, I would have thought that a lambda sensor fault would have given a CEL warning, which I assume wasn’t the case? Similarly, an airbag fault would have given a warning.
