Hi guys,

Just though I would introduce myself. I have been into aircooled VW's for a number of years now, but I am getting drawn towards the lovely Porsche.

Just though I would look in and see what the site is like - as I might be joining you soon.[;)]

Welcome Adam we're generally friendly here although you won't always get immediate replies because we are always out driving - except for me whose car seems to be permanently grounded! - what car are you thinking of getting?

welcome adam, i can only secound what bones has already said.
bones, just think that if you did'nt have so many problems with your car you could'nt give so many answers to our problems ...lol

Welcome Adam.

I have fond memories of student days in a '73 Tomato Red 'GT Beetle'. There's definitely something of the same character in a 911, but the driving experience is a little different!

Can vouch for the fact that the SC and 3.2 members are a good bunch (and I'm sure all the others are too but I don't spend much time on other forums).

Steve - interesting site, thanks. That guy's spent some time compiling all that info!

I wonder how many of us have got into Porsche after years of ownership of aircooled VW's?

My route into Porsche ownership...

1. '71 VW Beetle 1300 (replaced with mildly tuned 1641cc)
2. '69 VW Type II Devon Conversion (rare 'crossover model' with bay front and sides and 'split screen style' rear window, lights and bumper)
3. BMW 320i (felt like a Porsche after driving a camper!)
4. Present day... '83 911SC Targa and VW Golf TDi (everyday runaround and loadlugger)

Rich,

SNAP!! (Well almost)

Presently running ... '80 911SC Targa & '02 VW Golf TDi

Also welcome Adam, look forward to seeing more posts when you get a car, keep us infromed on how you get on[:D]

May I humbly suggest a 912 as a good transition from VW to Porsche ownership? I just happen to have a 1969 Ossi blue coupe for sale if you are interested[;)]

Details on www.912register.co.uk

I've seen those. They are even more wild to drive than early 911's!!

I've also seen type 2 vans both split screen and Bay windows with flat 6 porsche engines. Also, a few years ago when I was young and foolish I had a split screen van with a 912 engine in it. Accelerated well with a standard vw gearbox in it!!![:)]
