Next Item just states....

002 Offside outer rear tie bar/rod has excessive play in ball joint (2.4.G.3)

So far..

1. Rear jacked up onto axle stands
2. Offside rear removed.

Unsure as to which Ball Joint this is reference to???

Only one I can find any "play" in is the upper rear ball joint...but this is absolute minimum play...eg by using a 16inch bar to flex it !!! (this was done with the weight of the hub lifted on jack to isolate weight of wheel hub). No movement in any of the other ball joints.

I intially thought it would be the lower one (connected to lower end of shock) but cannot find any play in this one whatsoever.

Any advice?

Where would be a good place to source replacement tie bar/ball joint?

Many thanks

Can post pics if required tvm?

Not the drop link to the anti roll bar is it? These go from time to time, otherwise I would have quessed at the one you did, the one connected to the bottom of the damper. It says ball joint, so it should be the outer side as the ones on the inboard side are rubber bushes. Any chance of asking the MOT guy which one it was exactly?

Spoke to MOT garage its the lower rear one (Control Arm 2). Connected to base of shock.

Any recommends on part suppliers?

Will ring up OPC for price...just to see!!!

Can't think of anyone likely to supply one that didn't come from and OPC. Best bet would be Europarts, failing that you may have to bite the bullet. Easy to change on that side, bit harder on the passenger side as the heat exchanger makes the bolt hard to get out. You will need the geo done too unfortunately as this has an adjustable eccentric on the inboard side and additionally the new part won't be exactly like the old one.

Porsche uprated the eccentrioc bolt from '95 and if your going to get the geo done anyway might be an idea to change both bolts at the same time. Tognola do the geo for about £160. Not cheap, but cheapest around here for a proper job.

Cheers for the info....

Tognola did the geo approx 18mths ago to sort out a tyre wear issue....car felt brilliant afterwards.....

Looks like OPC are going to £150 of my hard earned cash.......

Design 911 quoted same price as OPC....will get the geo done on completion...just to see how far out it has gone...

I scribed lines on the cross member, counted the turns and checked the torque od the bolt. However, this would not take into consideration a difference it the actual part.....

Well let us know how you get on and whether your scribe mark got it close enough not to require adjustment.

Best wishes

Could try Bert , don't know if he would keep it though , but worth a call, I know he is closed until Thursday as he is moving premises >
