Thanks for the help with the condensation problem.

Next...

The heating and ventilation system packed up, nothing on the control panel works. The guy repairing the car says that it is the ventilation fans at the front. When he replaced the 20A fuse with a 40A fuse they worked fine, this was just a test to see if they work and not to be recommended.

So, he wants to replace one or both of the fans, which are apparently £300 each. If they are operational, then there must be some sort of current surge causing the fuse to blow. Perhaps this is a fixable known problem, £600 of fans seems a bit excessive doesn't it?

Any comment greatfully received.

Most likely one of them worked fine. The other is jammed and so pulling much more current than it should (so blows a 20A fuse). Could be rubbish stuck in it jamming it. Or being jammed has over heated it and shorted it out.

I have had similar experiences to you. First the condensation caused by wet carpets, and also have rebuilt my heating. Unfortunately with the latter, it is a complex system, if it isn't a simple fix it can get very in-depth (literally deep inside the car, even beneath the fuel tank!) and expensive. My only advice is to shop around and choose a garage that knows these cars well. And try to stick with the same garage so that if the problem needs to be revisited you can agree exactly what's been done. Best of luck.
