Hi every one, This is my first time on the forum and i've been having a great time skiving and reading about our chosen steed. I bought my 944 in august last year, she's a 1987 8 valve 2.5 and i can't believe how good these cars are! Possibly the best kept secret of the car world. I've just been reading about the gears in my sun roof with great interest, I managed to knacker mine about 2 days after i bought it by not pushing the roof home after showing off my removable roof to the missus, thus not lining up the track with the locating pin. so beware. Just a quick question, how do I get a picture to come up with my name when I post an item on the forum? Also are there any of you out there in the north Wales area, as a matter of interest?

Great choice of car. Belinda still hasn't forgiven me for getting rid of our Lux. She's not over keen on the Turbot - Can you believe that?
 
I know, you're trying to tell me the lux is a girls car. It's not though. I bought it to replace an aging 205 gti and I got a rude awakening. All I wanted was a car that worked when driven, I got a 16year old porsche. It drives as fresh as a daisy just like a new car, and boy does it work when driven. I now have a rear drive car that performs impecebly, delivers me to my destination refreshed and most of all enthused. One day I will go turbo, One day when I can afford to get me a turbo 944 and still buy the laydie a meal. If you get my drift. Thanks for the reply, hope to see you out there.

A normally aspirated (N/A) Lux is far more pure in it's power delivery. It has been said that us boosty boys must be lacking in some department to feel the need for artificial methods of upping our engines power [8D] Obviously I would disagree with this as I am now firmly lured over to the dark side [8|]

My wife also hates driving the Turbo and much prefers her N/A S2
 
Welcome to the forum, The Lux is a fine car - just always felt to me it could quite comfotrably handle more power - so I bought a Turbo and though very quick I felt it could still handle more power - fortunately (or maybe unfortunately) it is much easier to find the extra power in a Turbo.
My wife didn't like the lux as it was Red and she doesn't like red cars - she thinks I spend too much time on the Turbo and wont drive it in case it gets damaged. She also thought I was driving slowly when I took her round the Nurburgring - I wouldn't of liked to go much faster.

Hi here I just thought id add that I previously had an '83 2.5 lux (no power steering & a manual roof - so quite light) and now have a 250 turbo and must say that on the road in many ways the lux was more usable sports car, but ive bought this for track days as well and good as the lux was it needed more power.

I totaly caned our Lux (leaving the brakes a smoking wreck) when taking people round Snetterton. I was chasing an Aston Martin Vantage and did have to "try" in order to keep up.

This year I did it in the Turbo and, whilst I still had fun, it was no more fun than I had in the Lux.

No one will deny that power is fun, but a ballanced chassis with the right ratio of power is every bit as enjoyable. The Turbot is devastating but the Lux was agile and perhaps more satisfying to attempt to drive fast. Any twit can make a Turbot go fast but to turn in a quick lap with a Lux takes skill.
 
Think I'd like to get mine out on a track to stretch it's legs propperly. I have to admit that i've not had the balls to go and wear out my brakes and lovely fresh tyres yet' but it is very tempting. Has any one been to the Anglesey circiut at Ty Croes? plenty of companys organise track days there and they do'nt seem to expensive.
 
Great news Simon [:D] that's what Dr Porsche built them for anyway.

I haven't been to the Anglesey circuit but I have read many rave reviews about it, especialy on the www.bookatrack.com website. It is apparently quite a technical circuit, very narrow and quite twisty so be prepared to be passed many times by Caterhams and Westfields, but that's no problem as we never go to a trackday with our ego's do we [;)]

My first ever trackday I was lapped repeatedly by a fleet of Mazda MX5's driven by experienced trackday regulars [:-]

Pads and disks are very easy to change on our cars, www.clarks-garage.com has good instructions and as a set of pads is pretty cheap I would get used to doing it yourself and saving loads on the labour charges. I find that front pads tend to last about 4-5 trackdays and disks about 10-15

New tyres don't like trackwork and will wear very quickly, mainly because they have so much tread that the blocks of rubber move around and heat up excessively, losing you loads of grip and melting the rubber off. Well worn tyres with only 2-3 mm of tread left will grip much more, heat up less and wear very little (unless you are a Sideways Sid hero)

Just remembered another good thing about Anglesey is that full days can cost from £89 [:D][:D][:D]
 
Don't know where you are based but from anywhere other than North Wales Anglesey is a long way - (but with the option of some very nice roads [:D] )

As you guessed I am based in north wales, only about an hour and a bit away. It's a cracking drive to get there.
