Nitrogen in tyres

Whilst waiting at my local OPC I read about the advantages/warranty implications of using/not using Nitrogen in our N rated tyres. When I inquired they said that they don't do it. What are others experience please?

I've had nitrogen filled tyres for many years now and would recommend it. [:)] Some PC's have it, others don't.
It needs specialist equipment to purge each tyre of air and replace with N2 - usually several times to ensure a thorough job.

The principal advantages are a reduction in fluctuating tyre temperatures during hard use and pressures being maintained for extended periods as the gas is not so prone to leakage through the tyre fabric - so no constant top-ups are usually necessary. Of course, in the event of an emergency, you can still replenish with normal air since the two mix quite happily (air being mostly nitrogen anyway).

Quite a few tyre depots now offer N2 to their customers and my PC offers it FOC if done as part of a service.

Regards,

Clive

My local KwikFit charge £1 per tyre for Nitrogen (purged a couple of times). And my OPC does it automatically when fitting new tyres. Many dispute the benefits but I reckon it helps slow the raising of pressure when the tyre warms up when enthusiastically driving.
