Hi Guys the Ex Des 944 is still going well.

I have been using the car as my run around and some nice long drives.

Anyway

I have no Dash lights now its starting to get dark before I go mad and strip any bits out and poke and prod I thought I would ask if this was a simple known common fault or one I have to get stuck into ...?

Also I hear water! gushing around when I drive about I hear water at the lower part of the screen area ( behind the dash ) gushing around ! is this normal? is this just the coolant running around??

I will say the rear tyres I got a matching set Triangle are rather ( well crap ) to be honest. I think anyway I pushed it round a round about and it could hear it squeel. Not a high tec test I know but I was supprised it did it..

Any tips [:D] tops stuff guys.

Oh and add to that list the fan always runs!

I am thinking this is not normal even just a short run down the road the fan is running?

In a moment of madness I replaced a punctured rear toyo with a triangle, not sure what's worse, a pair of triangles or a mismatched toyo and triangle!

Do any of the dash lights work?

The 3 bulbs which light the dials are seperate to the other bulbs such as the indicator flasher and the handbrake warning light.

Sorry I should have been clearl it's the dim lights eg when you need to light up the clocks for night time driving. The instruments all work handbrake etc etc

Tyres year they where cheap! The car had one new one from Des days I thought matching with the same new one would be a smart move clearly not oh well there legal and set for some fun in the snow lol

There is a roller switch for the dash lights but they tend to be rather dim anyway - the reflectors lose their silvering.

Does the fan run on when the ignition is off? If yes, its probably the water temp switch. If no, the cooling system needs bleeding.

It probably does anyway as the sloshing is likely to be air in the heater.

Car looks good though!

That's the problem I had until recently! the bulbs in the heater until will also not be working properly. I took it to an auto electrician and he found a few wires behind the centre console/glove box which had just been wrapped together. they were shorting and had caused the dimmer switch to melt.

first check the fuse (think its #28 or something like that)

have a look for a few wires that have been taped together like in my 944. if no joy then...

get a new dimmer switch

best of luck

brilliant guys some things to be going on with there..

yes the fan runs on ( more slowly ) when the key is out and the engine is off.. I normaly switch off the engine and turn the key back to let the fan run on abit more to cool the engine but you recon it's a temp switch ok I will get one of those..

Also my horn is like wowfull as in I could shout louder.. I take it the Porsche Horn is two tone and I recon I have single tone.

It's back again.. is there an area on the matrix I can unscrew to get the air out and then re put back on..

I remember VW golf had this..

I will try running it again with the cap off and the car running to see if it clears it again..

OK UPDATE

Project 944

I have been enjoying some local runs out and about and it's a cracking car for sure. Just things I want to keep on top off

I have still not found the source of the water leak in the car yet I think I am narowing it down.. I have taped up the roof and it's still coming in so I am now looking at the rear hatch seal or even the brackets to the hatch might be leaking though.. so that is still not finished I know I will get there in the end..

I have a whine from the rear diff area? this is new.. It might because it's cold I don't know but from cold there was a whine I could hear as I went on to the motor way.. I thought it might be a tire noise but no it's like it's the old fashioned diff noise..

now this is new? I have not had this until today? I really can't say I have noticed it before. I am going to take a look at the oil this weekend with the view to changing it Full Synth 75-90 I understand.

one other issue I have which you guys might have had your self..

if I have a window open all I get is the whiff of exhaust fumes it's like it comes off the back of the car and it's drawn in to the car cough cough !! it's horrible..

in a mad cap world would this have some thing to do with the rear hatch seal ???

Exactly that. The seal allows exhaust gas to be sucked in, and water to leak through. It couls also be the glass seperating from the frame. []

If the seal looks old and tired then it probably is, you can try to clamp a piece of paper in it to find if it is tight all the way around. New ones are cheap, but you'll probably need to adjust/replace the hatch pins to get a good seal and that's more difficult.

Yes - it is that madcap thing.

The stale cabin air leaves the car through vents around the inside of the rear hatch, and it's drawn out by way of the space inside the rear wings and through the doors - hence the grilles in the door shuts - and leaves the car at the leading edge of the doors where there's a low pressure area caused by the body's aerodynamic shape. Opening the window causes the whole wonderful design to fall apart, and if your hatch seal is not airtight, the lower pressure in the cabin will now suck exhaust fumes from the back of the car into the cabin. Fit a new hatch seal and it might also help with the water leak.

PS - McNulters, you beat me to the draw!

ok I might look into gettting a new seal Porsche main dealer or after market places any recomendations? I did try and adjust the pin a few months back when I was just looking and noticed a gap and its stuck solid !

I think it can come off as a whole unit so I will look at that and take it off and drop it in a tank of diesel for a few days that will sort that out..
