No Fuel Vapor Purge System - effects?

Having established that all my vacuum lines are in the wrong place, it now appears that my FVPS has been removed. Am I right in thinking that this should be located on the top of the inner wing, passenger side? If so, mine isnt!
What effect will this have? Will it cause any emmissions problems come MOT time? More importantly, is it dangerous?
Assuming it is ok to run without it, do I just blank off the vacuum lines that should run to it?
Sorry for all the questions.

Is the pipe of the cannister still on your car ?

A friend has replaced the cannister on his turbo with a K&N fuel vapor filter (he has also dumped the fuel damper, by the way) and nothing has gone wrong.

Steve are you talking about the unit that is just in front of the fusebox?

I have noticed that 'some' Turbos don't appear to have this. My own 1989 model does not, and neither does Will Preslands 1989 model, yet I have looked at 1990 and onwards and they all have it. I have also seen it on an '85 Turbo, so I wonder if for some reason Porsche deleted it for a few years [&:]?????

It would seem I quite misunderstood what was talked about. Sorry [8|]

Hi Thom. No I think we are talking about the same thing. From what I have been able to gather, there should be a canister in the passenger side wheel arch, hidden by the wheel arch liner. Attached to this is a pipe which leads to some contraption in front of the fuse box, which is what is missing on my car, and I am relieved to hear [:)], some other cars.

I will have to remove the wheel arch liner when I have a moment to try to establish whether the system was orignally fitted and has been removed, or whether it was never there at all. Either way, it appears that it is not a problem, so many thanks to you and Paul.
