No gears..........

Off out for a drive this afternoon and suddenly cant get any gears. Finally manged to get it into 4th and trundle home. I also noticed quite a vibration coming through the gear stick when driving which wasnt there before but not interested in going into any gears after that.

Initial thought are possibly clutch, release bearing, clutch master cylinder..dont really know cos I today was my 1st weeks, yes weeks, anniversary and I dont know my way round these cars yet.

Anyone got any thoughts..........help

Have you checked the Fluid Reservoir for the Clutch? The bottom hose has a habit of splitting. Certainly cheaper than replacing the clutch!

Yip..........all looks ok. Reservoir full and no signs of a leak. Local indie garage man is going to call me back.........thank goodness for RAC who will hopefully put it on a low loader and take it over there.

Really sorry to hear that George. []

It certainly never did anything like that with me before..... which I realise doesn't really help you very much.

Are you taking it to Motortune or somewhere else?

Yeah, left a message for Peter to give me call and I will get RAC to take it over during the week. Pretty sure its clutch as it will go in and out gear happily with the engine off.
On another note, took the car this morning to AC Taylor Coachworks over in Cathcart. They do a lot of Porsche and other good marques, recommended by George Morrison Motors the other indi porsche garage in glasgow. Really just to get the sills and wheel arches done. Chap there commented what good nick it was in for a 15yr old !!

Keep you posted............

Cheers

It does sound like the clutch then, and it is still on the original one.

I'm glad you're dealing with Peter as I know he'll look after you properly, and I also know (through others) that (assuming worst cast that it needs a new one) his price to replace is very competitive. [&:]

AC Taylor was the other place I was trying to remember when we were talking about reputable body shops ~ nice comments (said rather embarressedly whilst clutching at some straws).

Best of luck with Peter.

If it isn't loss of clutch fluid then my next guess would be the rubber centre has broken up.

Nothing worst than your rubber center breaking up !!!!..........spoke to Peter at Motortune and seems 99% its the clutch. One of these things I guess, anyway its was pi**ing down most of today in glasgie so wouldnt have been going far.

Well finally got my new toy back...........and it was the clutch, in fact the rubber center bit as was mentioned. It had broken up and the cover and friction plate had stuck together.

Great to have it back. £600, £300 parts and £300 labour which I thought was pretty reasonable.
