No heated seats?

Ex-Boxster owner - but given I liked to have the roof down at every opportunity I instantly dismissed any car for sale that didn’t have heated seats.

If its otherwise perfect then they can be retrofitted - the newer the car the more complex it is to make it “factory” though.

Just out of interest - quick poll for Boxster owners -
  • do you have heated seats?
  • do you use heated seats?
  • would you miss them if you didn't have them?

I ask because the otherwise great looking Boxster I'm looking at has all the options on my list. Ignoring the mech issues which I've been reassured are being sorted, it's looking promising. Lack of heated seats seems odd, just assumed everyone would spec heated seats when buying a new Boxster.

I don't see the lack of them as a deal breaker, should I?

987.2 / 2.9 owner for 6 years now.

only thing wife comments on is a lack of heated leather seats fron early Sept to April.

wish the car had them, but we will survive!

Yes to heated seats. Since they became available on mass market cars we’ve had them on all cars for the last 30+ years. Defo mandatory for our Boxster, especially on those Alpine passes!

No. Never found I have needed them. Or climate control. Or mega adjustable seats as the standard ones fit me fine. I do SORN it November to March though. A basic Boxster with no options is still a great drive !

I say yes to all 3 of your questions. However it depends how you plan to use the car and as mentioned you can probably retrofit. If you had asked me ten years ago I would not have cared at all. Good luck with your decision.

Super helpful! Thank you Jeff - nice and close by to me, if I do get this Boxster without heated seats, I'll be booking in with these folks come September! Nice one.
You can definitely go with them to have heated seats retrofitted. Really pleased we did it in my wife's Boxster as per link and James is really good and careful with the car. Makes using the car with the roof down on cold days a real pleasure now.

I would have always said a definite YES to heated seats.

But now would add one proviso; not really essential if you have Alcantara or Race-Tex seats. My current car has Race-tex and I’ve noticed that I hardly ever use the seating heating even though it is fitted.

on a car with leather seats though, heating is an absolute must, and ventilation too is nice to have.

I ordered heated seats on my July 1998 factory collection 986 and they are great with the roof down. Only need the lower setting.

The lack of heated seats wasn’t the deal breaker itself, not all the other issues, but I ended up not proceeding with the Boxster in the end and found another more well maintained example, and luck would have it, it has heated seats, hurrah!

thank you for the all the responses on here, was super helpful!

thank you for all the responses to this, I’ve been enjoying my Boxster (a 2011 987S) today and I have to agree with those who said yes to heated seats.

It’s May already, still chilly outside and in an open top car, but warm seats make all the difference.

obvs not a deal breaker if you find an otherwise perfect example, but yes I’m in the heated seats crowd now. 😂

a warm back is heaven!

Heated seats are a definite and something I’ve always made sure my 4 Boxster’s have had.

Also a heated steering wheel is very nice (specced on my new to me 718) - something I never thought I’d need but I normally have cold hands so something I would miss if I didn’t have it especially with roof down motoring (so much so that my wife’s soon to be delivered non Porsche has a heated steering wheel)

YES!

if heated steering wheels were a thing on a 987 I’d be going for it. Have a heated steering wheel on my Alfa and I laughed at the idea of it. until November in Yorkshire and it all made sense. Genius.
