No low speed oil cooler fan - too risky?

I've discovered that my low speed oil cooler fan isn't working (blown ballast resistor, excellent Tech Article thanks Maurice). The oil temp needle goes no higher than it has ever done (just below 9 o'clock).
On Saturday I'm off on a driving holiday for a week in Europe, hopefully taking in a blast on an Autobahn. Am I being stupid taking the car (no time to get the fault fixed)? High speed fan is fine.

but I have a page from a Porsche technican booklet about the oil cooler, which was quite revealing and contradicted what I thought I knew about it, I will post a copy as soon as I find it !
