No LW radio? No DAB option? How am I supposed to listen to TMS?

Ok that's partly tongue in cheek, but Test Match Special is an absolute joy and I will miss it on the rare occasion a long journey clashes with it, once I get my new S :)

I suppose I could use some radio app on my iPhone...

Still - it's a shame there is no dab or LW option that I could see - or am I missing something?

MW 720 will get you test match special.

Really - have always used lw198.

Great news!

Update: just checked - I think mw720 is only available in London... Back to the drawing board :(

Thanks

Ian

I share your pain. Not being able to listen to TMS has in the past caused me to drive my wife's volvo! Tune in Radio (the best radio app for the iphone) works very well but is bandwidth hungry - if you use it often to listen over 3G you will use a lot of data, about 30mb per hour i seem to recall. You can get an aftermarket solution - (google pure highway) but they didnt seem ideal to me as they need an additional ariel. If you find something better please post it here!

Ouch! Though I get entirely where you are coming from :)

I can understand the car manufacturers reluctance to commit to dab too, since it has hardly been a success, but it's frustrating none the less.

Tunein radio seems like a reasonable option with an unlimited data plan; could be the solution for me. Another option could be a portable dab radio just plug into the aux I guess? Neither are ideal though.

If I find a better solution, I'll post here...

Cheers

It's an option, just don't like the idea of a device and antenna stuck to the screen :(

I think the antenna is always going to be a problem for digital radio in a car and I agree about sticking (another) device to the windscreen! Then there is the issue with power cables/audio cables trailing around the inside etc. Tricky one!

This one looks like more of a "hard-wired" neater solution but still leaves the aerial issue?

Maybe I'm thinking too high tech - perhaps I could just use one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roberts-R9924-Sports-3-Band-Portable/dp/B0000C76HJ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1281695629&sr=8-1 in the AUX connection...

It might be worth a try but I suspect you will find that you will get a lot of engine interference unfortunately. You could experiment with any conventional long wave radio with an aux line out. Let us know how you get on. All the best, Andrew

I used to use a Roberts Sports pocket radio velcro'd to a side window and a pair of headphones.
Seemed to work OK for about £35. [:)]

Just picked up my new 987 S [:D] and am delighted to say that connecting my iPhone 3GS to the PCM and using the TuneIn Radio app I get perfect digital radio (at least where I have a data connection), so problem solved for me at least...

Several years ago I bought some Test Match Special Hats. These come as either floppy brim style or a cricket cap style. They have a very neat integral MW/LW tuner and 2 leads with ear plugs on the ends. We tend to use them when gardening, but they could be used while driving. The batteries (AAA) last quite a long time. We bought them mail order, can't remember where - but you could try a browser search. They have the advantage that you don't have to miss a wicket whilst travelling from car to your front door - plus you would look like an umpire or player, depending on your choice of style!
