No more Shell V-Power

I've heard on the IOM grapevine that Manx Petroleum are no longer importing Shell petrol onto the Island and that they will be rebranding their Shell petrol garages to Manx Petroleum.
The only V-Power available is what is left in their tanks, when it's gone it's gone.
Anyone else heard the same? What's Total petrol like in Porsche's? Should we use Excellium or do we avoid it?

Steve

I found the following quote:

"The new-look forecourts will continue to supply Shell petrol and diesel with Manx Petroleum remaining as Shell's branded Island distributor for a range of fuels in the retail, domestic and commercial markets under a long-term supply agreement".

I also understand that the Total stuff is the same as current Shell branded.

It may just be a re-branding exercise.

Cheers
Dave

I contacted Manx Petroleum through their website to ask the question. Here is their reply:

Many thanks for your recent email

Unfortunately Shell V-Power will soon be unavailable to private independently owned retail sites on the Isle of Man. It will only be available from Shell owned branded retail sites, for which there are non on the Island.

We estimate around the end of this month the mentioned product will be replaced by
Shell Super Unleaded.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause

Kind regards

Not good news. Anyone know what octane rating the Super Unleaded is? I found one website that said the Super Unleaded had been renamed to V-Power. Confused.....

This is not just a Manx problem. It is becoming increasingly tough to find V-Power in Scotland (outside central belt) - over last 5 years numerous Shell stations have been re-branded (mostly "Gleaner"[&:]) and only 95 oct is available.[]

I'd be interested to know what the relative sales figures are. I suspect V-Power is not viable except as a marketing device for the cheap stuff. No so in Europe (even quite poor parts I've driven) - every station where I've look has 98 available.
