no power to stereo

hi all,
Last week I was coming home from work along a generally straight smooth road and i noticed my cd player had gone off and wouldn't come on.

I have taken it out and tested the voltages to the unit and there is nothing....i've worked through the two fuses in the fuse box and another fuse by the stereo...but to no result.

I have checked what i believe to be the wire coming from the fusebox to the dash area and that doesn't have any power either.

Does anyone know of any other fuses i ahve missed or any help would be appreciated.

Its just a little annoying because i'm hearing all the rattles and sounds i don't really want to hear without the cd player.

Thanks

square dash. There seem to be 2 fuses:

1 for the booster and 1 for the actaul stereo?

I'll have a look through my wiring diagrams tomorrow. Is there anything else that's stopped working? I can't imagine they'd put just the radio on one circuit. Also, you should have two power sources, a permanent for the radion memory, and a switched for the unit itself. Are both sources out?

Both the sources are out.

Interestingly it seems the cigarette lighter fuse went at the same time...though replacing that does nothing for the stereo.

I don't know what could have happened to make it just suddenly stop....

thanks guys

Off topic (sort of)......................sorry...................

Does your radio work? If you are taking it out get somme piccies please as mine has a cr*p signal and I wonderd how it was connected up to the window? aerial (at least thats what I assume it is)

If the one 944owner has is a square dash then it won't have a screen aerial. Search and there is loads of discussion about it from a few weeks ago.

Sorry man, I've had a disaster today. Bloody great hole in my TR8's radiator on the way to a show! I'll get to it tomorrow...

sorry everyone think i must have been sleep writing this before.....its actually the oval dash.

i will take a pic of the aerial connections, though theres sooo many wires down there.

Had a quick look at the fuse box, fuse 36 is permanent positive, and fuse 39 is switched pos. put a voltmeter across a good ground, and the fuse holder (don't ask me which side comes from the battery!) and report what you get. I'll dig out the wiring diagrams in the mean time.....

i had a problem with my radio not working and i found it that my ignition switch was faulty, could be that?

I had a problem with the ignition switch and barrel which first manifested itself as no power to the radio - if I turned the key back from it's normal position it came back on. I lived with this for a while and then the switch that was (according to Northways) held together with gaffa tape fell off the back of the ignition barrel, leaving the car permanently cranking over! Not good.

So, maybe ignition switch issue?
