No Sound from Becker Grand prix 7990?

Hi All

Just installed the Becker grand prix 7990 in my 2000 Boxster S, but it will not say anything?

The original unit in my car is the Becker CDR-22 with CD changer and amplifier.

The reason is changed radio was to get an iPod control and the reason I chose the Becker was a) it looks similar to the original and b) it SHOULD be inter-changable as all the socket are identical.

so should be easy.

when I connect the 7990 everything seems to work, iPod, every thing. Just NO sound? The remote voltage for the amplifier on/off( pin 5 on socket A) also seems to work on=13V off=0V

when I reconnect the CDR-22 I get sound again.

It is almost as the amplifier line outputs on the 7990 are muted?

Am I going crazy?

Sincerely
Krestian

Socket A Pin 5 is the switched supply +ve for the aerial amplifier. Looks like yellow plug C pin 6 should have the 12v+ for the amplifier. If you would like a copy of the wiring diagram email me at richard996 at gmail d0t c0m

Hi Richard

Thanks. I will email to get the wiring diagram.
however, pin 5 is the connector that turns on/off amplifier+ automatic antennas etc.

the yellow plug is only the amplifier Audio outputs.

The thing is that the original radio (CDR-22) is a becker so I have not touched the wiring harness as they should be interchangable??

I dont get it!

Maybe the new radio is faulty?

There should be a positive feed in there too:

Krestian - I didn't receive your email. If you used the forum mail system, try emailing me direct, as I don't think it is working properly - I keep getting rejection messages whenever I try using it.

Thanks guys

It is working now.

It was indeed pin 6 on connector C1 that had to be connected to pin 5 on connector A.

What confused me was that in the CDR-22 manual the pin 6 on C1 is described as "not assigned" and since pin 6 on the new radio is subwoofer output( combined with the description of pin 5 socket A, for amp on/off) i accepted the "not assigned" description.

Anyway, it is up and runnning now

thanks again

sincerely

Krestian
