No throttle

Driving home in my turbo though town my throttle died

It was as if the cable had broken, the car did not cut out but went on to a rough idle!

When I gently pressed the accelerator the idle almost cut out.

I limped into a car park in first gear on idle.

I put my foot to the floor a couple of times but nothing

Then after about 4 min. from the problem starting I put my foot to the floor and the revs came back and idle went smooth.

Swithched off, had a look under the bonnet, nothing obvious

Started OK and drove 3 miles home.

I have only done a couple of thousand miles in the turbo and so far the only work on the engine has been oil and filter change.

Can anybody suggest what could cause this?

I would have a look at the AFM and the idle stabilizer valve.
Both can be dismantled and cleaned instead of just being replaced for expensive new items.

Air flow meter is a suspect--Had similar symptoms recently. Very corroded inside, replaced = All OK again

I had similar symptoms when my coil was failing, though if I knocked it into neutral and floored the pedal as it died it would pick up. It felt like it had stalled but would actually run at an idle. Somewhere in the workshop manual there is an easy check with a mulitmeter on ohms. But also could be AFM as mentioned above.

I think I will start with cleaning the AFM, good info on Clarks

Whats the best way to remove and clean ?
