NO Tracker ... Insurance

I am due to take delivery of my new Boxster in the next week or two but still need to sort the Tracker/Insurance. Have discussed the VTS/TRACKER/Warrantee issues at length I have now decided to side step all the issues and try and find a new insurer that doesn't require a Tracker.

So far I have quotes from Cornhill via A Manning, NU via A Plan and R&SA via PerformanMarques. In addition they have each also quoted for my VW Golf TDI with mirrored bonus. I think I have covered all the basics .. NO TRACKER, cover for factory options, lowish XS, Porsche approver repairers, business class 1 use.

Can anyone provide me with insite into any of these three combinations? What are they all like for claims handling? Anything else I should look out for?

Paul

I had the misfortune of having to make a claim a few years back now. I was insured by NU (and still am). As far as I was concerned they handled the claim perfectly; all liaison performed directly with the OPC body shop - I just had to pay the excess direct to the body shop when I picked the car up. PS: I don't have a tracker either.

Ditto although now with RSA (cost).

NU/NUD policy price seems to go up and down like a yo-yo.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Use a reputable broker and stick with them - most have considerable discretion, I've found, in setting the terms and the premium. All my family have used the same broker for decades, and whenever I've been tempted to try other quotes they have never matched up.

Here are a few examples:
- My 18 year old son's best quote was 40% higher than that offered by our broker.
- My wife got full no claims when she had her first car, on the back of my NCB.
- Aussie friends in the UK/Ireland for six months got insurance for a third of most other quotes.
- Free 'uninsured losses' insurance.
- Free extra driver insurance for visiting friends from abroad.
- My 986 then 987 premiums have REDUCED for the last two renewals: £630 to £600 to £585 for fully comp., 2 drivers, protected NCB, all extras covered, RAC, £250 excess with Norwich Union.

I tried a direct quote from NU and it was a joke. Moral: always use a broker; insurance selection, like Porsche service, is not a DIY activity.

On the broker from try Peart - you can only do quotes over the phone, because they run special Porsche schemes and understand the complexity of optional extras.

Also Esure or First Alternative will not ask for a Tracker, but will charge extra for uprated wheels and items such as PASM

Like Brian I had concluded that having to insure two vehicles, one being a Porsche, for the first time was a job for the experts. I have been with my current company for 20 years but their stance on Trackers can't be escaped so I am forced to move. I now have it down to A Manning (Cornhill) or A Plan (NU). Which would you go for?

Paul

Paul,

Who did you go for in the end?...My Cayman due in 2 weeks, I currently use Allen & Allen, who say i need to change insurer, but havent phoned me back with an alternative yet!

I am still waiting for a call back from A Manning (to confirm no tracker, factory options covered and Porsche approver repairers) but plan to go with them despite being £30 more expensive.

For me two minor details swayed it
1) A Manning run a specific scheme for Porsche Club GB via Cornhill.
2) Cornhill reset the claim count each year where NU tot up 2 in 5 before reducing the NCD.
