Noise from n/s rear

Afternoon all those not at Le Mans;-)

Quick question for you all. My '88 944S has just started making an intermittent cluncking/clicking sound from the o/s rear. Whether it's related to the new 9j x 16 D90's I've fitted I don't yet know (and at the moment I'm assuming it's nothing to do with them).

Car handles OK, but I've not driven it at speed since I first heard the noise a day or so ago. I can only think that either the handbrake shoes have broken up or it's a CV going/gone!? It's not yet permanent, but it does not sound good (seems to be more apparent once I've gone round a left hand bend?).

Any ideas?

TIA

Tim

Hi Tim

I would suspect the CV joint as a first option but as you have fitted different wheels have you checked the wheelnuts for tightness. From personal experience I now check these nuts myself as I had a wheel fall off after having new tyres fitted ( on a different car ).

Good point Kev, but I did check these and all are OK (unfortunately, as it would be an easey fix;-)
I think you're right, it sounds like the CV.

If it is the CV joint then try taking it off, reversing it so the outer joint is by the gearbox and the inner is by the wheel, then refit after repacking with fresh grease. This seems to work most of the time as only one of the joints wears. This will delay having to replace the joint for a few more years
