Noise from Power Steering

My 944, like most of them, tries to embarass me when parking with that awful noise, I'm sure you know the one I mean [:D]

However, it's now starting to happen at low speed even when going straight. Do you reckon the power steering pump is on the way out?

Andy, my 944 only makes that noise if the power steering fluid is low (which it never is anymore since I got the slow leak fixed).

Cheers chaps

I've checked the fluid and the level is OK. I am thinking about draining and renewing it, as it may have been in there forever, to see if that helps.

Some people do manage to get rid of it by changing the fluid (I did [:D]) , but mine never made the noise in a straight line, just on full lock, going slowly in reverse.

You could be right about the pump. Porsche do a rebuild kit to replace all the seals in it for about £20. Porsche and 911 World ran an 'show me how' article a few years ago

I rebuilt one on my old car using that article, it used to make an awful noise when cold. The instructions are easy to follow, it only took about two hours (would be a lot quicker after doing it once) and the pump never made a noise or leak after that.
