Noise from rear

Hi,

Not sure if you remember but i was looking for a S2 not white. Well i found a 2.5 LUX Red. Very nice car.

Still very new to the Porsche scene and i am unsure of a slight wining noise coming from the back. It has been suggested due to the low milage and car being stood for a while that the bearings may be a bit stiff. Alternativly its been suggested that i could need complete new Pinion bearings costing £500. Or possible diff problem.

I guess without looking its hard to tell but with 43,000 miles i wouldnt expect any thing serious. Is this the case. [:'(]

Most 944's have a noisy pinion, at least all the ones I've seen (heard?) - apparently that's just the way they are. Mine whines, most noticably on the overrun, but I don't lose any sleep over it.

Glad you're enjoying the car otherwise, post some pics when you get a chance and show off your new toy

Mine whines too. I just put my 2 kids in the back, cant hear anything but screaming and shouting now!

It may be worth changing the gearbox oil. When I was looking for my cars it was surprising how many had no evidence of this ever being done. It's supposed to be every 48,000 miles, but I would not want original oil in my car after 15 years. Some people have reported excellent results with Swepco gear oil that Bert Gear sells at Berlyn services
