noise from steering wheel

[:mad:]Rubbing noise from my steering wheel ,when i trun it, is it a problem???? .Can i fix it ??? 1988 944S
 
I occaisionally get a noise like someone has sstuffed a bit of card behind the ingnition cowling. Not been quite annoyed enough to track down the issue yet though. [8|]
 
Mine has a sound which sounds like paper grinding and for some reason a small piece of card is visible near the ignition cowling- no idea why but it seems to be doing no harm.
 
Is this the noise that goes "whooooo". A bit like running two bits of plastic tube together violin style (or if anyone remember, those plastic tubes that you spun above your head as a kid!).

If so I have the same noise - can't work out if it's coming from the steering column or further down. It only seems to happen when the cars warm, and only when I'm at parking speeds.

DITTO, it doesn't happen when cold - only when warm and of almost full to full lock on ?

A kind of hollow resonating whooo noise, i initially thought it might have been something rubbing as i needed a new ball joint on one side, but that's repaired now and it still does it on either diresction of steering at over 50% steering lock on ?

Would like to get this resolved as it is rather anoying and embarasing when parking in a busy place.

They almost all do that. A fluid change might help a bit but my personal opinion (and 4 out my 5 944s have done this) is that the pipework picks up a resonance from the pump under certain conditions. Normally reversing into a car park space is worst.

I am 100% confident it will be cured on my Turbo if I ditch the PAS though [:D]
 
Ditch the PAS - are you mad ? [;)]

Sounds like spray grease isn't going to sort it then if it's picking up the vibrations, just strange how it only happens when warm ?
