I just had a lift back from my local OPC in my sons 996 how can you guys stand that awful noise generated by this outdated engine. My Cayenne is a dream compared to this model.
And I would say that althought slower my MG TF of yesteryear was a more relaxing and pleasurable drive..And dare I say it a Caterham or Lotus 7 is more quiet.
Keep your ear plugs in lads

With a sports system they are quiet noisy but lovely without one there not loud and just have a nice flat 6 sound unless there is somthing wrong like the baffles. But if you like the MG TF then that will explain all.

I love the sound of the air-cooled flat sixes, but agree that the standard 996 is a bit bland.

However, add the PSE and it is wonderful. Not noisy - just gorgeous.

The silly old duffers talking about tyre noise chaps !!

He loves the SLK because you get zero feedback from the steering, ditto the Cayenne, hence why they are both like driving a boat in comparison to driving a 996 !

Oops, just saw your surnames... what is the tis for?

PSE? Porsche Sound Excluder?Sounds good they should make it a non optional extra on all flat 6 Jowett's

Take a look at my recent thread entitled Finally Exhausted, and 'Another new 996 owner 'both cover this issue in depth - I went the Dansk route with high flow cats, sounds sublime, with hardly any noticeable increase at motorway cruising speeds. There's a sound clip on the thread.

Hope this helps!

So many threads, so little time....

watchya, like you i craved for more noise but only when i want it with my boy racer cap on and quieter when my wife is with me!! i opted for a powerflow system. they fit stainless steel boxes with a valve which runs of a mini-compressor. this is controlled by a little remote control fob that i keep in the ashtray. the results are amazing...quiet on the motorways like the o/e box but open that valve and holy Moses!!! i'm in Birmingham and the sound on a quiet Sunday morning thru the queensway tunnels is phenomenal. head office is Bridport Dorset. cost £900 fitted. my only criticism is the piping in the engine bay is bright blue and i'm still awaiting for schematics to wire it up to a button on the dash. so in summary for a switchable stainless steel exhaust switchable for £900 for a sound to unleash the boy racer in you then well worth it. happy days [:)]

How long did it take to fit as I was told its quite fiddly.
