Noisy 981 Roof Opening mechanism

For no apparent reason the 'hook' which tensions the hood from inside the car became noisy but worked fine. Porsche investigated and decided
a new mechanism was required. Please note if you are having this minor problem and nearing the end of your warranty!

Hello Ronwood,
Sorry to hear of this problem, can you bit more specific about the noise/problem you had?
Thanks
Regards
Tim

When closing the roof you get a slight mechanical noise from inside as the internal hook connects with the latch and tensions up the fabric
cover. Over the last month the noise had increased to a loud 'groan' but no other sign of any problems i.e. no grating noise,
no lack of tension in the roof.
Porsche replaced the internal tensioning device, took a day to get the part and several hours to fit under warranty, no charge.
I have owned the car from new for nearly two years and apart from upgrades/recalls this has been the only problem.
I open and close the roof on a regular basis but not excessively.

On an almost related point.
I was travelling with my wife over the QE II bridge at the weekend when the heavens open. I slowed as I reached the toll booths and told my wife to just hold the hood closing button so the hood would close as soon as we hit 30mph. It closed while the speedo was showing 37mph.
Anyone else experienced this faster than advertised, wonderful dry clothing saviour?

I guess there was an urgent need to close the roof in your case with water above and below! Whilst it will close when moving, I would worry that the stress in it acting like a sail, albeit for a short time, may not do it much good. I always try and operate when stationary but there may come a time!!!
