Noisy Air Conditioning

When the air conditioning in my car is on, there is a loud whining noise, which rises with engine speed. The noise stops as soon as I turn the A/C off. The noise can't be heard outside of the car. I bought the car 3 months ago and had the A/C re-gassed just after I bought it. It still blows cold even in the current 25 degree heat. The compressor sounds OK with the bonnet open and the engine and A/C running. Any ideas on where I should direct my attention to fix this?

Noise is definitely coming from front of car, it's not there for the first 10 minutes or so of a drive, I'm beginning to think it is one of the front radiator fans, just noticed that they come on all the time the A/C is on. I have ruled out the heater blower as with the A/C off and it on any speed the noise is not present.

I had a whine from the dash area when the air con was on, and it was the heater blower fan. Changed the fan and all quiet again. Strangely my fan did not make a noise when heater was on.

It could be low gas. Mine made a whining noise after having the condensers changed. The garage then diagnosed a faulty pump. I took it somewhere else to be checked as the pumps are not cheap and it turned out the first garage didn't put enough gas in. Re-gassed correctly it was fine. So it could be you have a slow leak and it's low on gas.

My money is on one of the radiator fans. Had exactly the same problem with my 996 turbo and the N/S fan was the culprit. Changed and all quiet now. Mine always come on when the AC is on.

I'm in agreement with Tykes. Sounds like a fan needs investigating. Used to have this issue on my careers as the fan would come on with a/c. Hope this helps. John.

The more I look into this I too think its one of the radiator fans, so I have taken a chance and bought one, I'll post back here after I swap it out. Thanks for all the useful comments and suggestions.
