Spooky. Mine just developed same fault within last week or so. Sounded horribly like a whining g'box till i turned the climate control off. Doesnt sound like its coming from the engine bay. Regards Neil

My aircon as just developed a strange noise. I can only describe it as a low whining, it increases in tone as you excelerate! Anyone got any idea. I'm covered under extended warranty so should be ok if i have a problem!

Should you always keep the aircon turned on?

Cheers Chris

It's a lack of oil in the system, usually due to a leak. Eventually all the gas will leak out too & you'll have no aircon. If it's a leak due to the front aircon rads then you won't be covered under warranty [] Good idea to leave the system on all the time AFAIK.

Nick any idea of size of job to fix/cost if it's not covered under warranty[] would you take it to a good indi? Cheers Chris.

Strangely enough I seem to recall Martin (diesel130) getting them replaced under warranty. Otherwise, definitely go to an indy. Aftermarket Eis rads are just over £100 each, plus a couple of hours for fitting and a re-gas. £400-ish all-in for both sides I would guess.

That's about what I paid for mine last month from a local radiator/aircon specialist I'm friendly with (but not friendly enough to get a big discount!). Apparently he filled a carrier bag full of rotting leaves/fag ends which were trapped in and around them and I thought I was quite thorough cleaning that area out.
