Noisy Engine on S2

Guest

My mechanic has recently replaced the cam chain, tensioner and belts on my S2 Cab and has explained that the engine is a " little noisier" than he expected after the work. He put this down to the " followers" possibly needing to be replaced. He did explain, but I am sorry to say that not being all that technically minded, it went in one ear and out the other!

What are followers?

Is it going to cause damage if I don' t replace them soon? (been quoted up to £40
per follower plus labour and as you cannot run the engine with the top off, it is hard to isolate which one or ones are to be replaced and there are apparantly 16 of them!!)

I am going to drive to Le Mans this year and I want to get all potential problems completely to the back of my mind so I can enjoy the drive there and back.

Many thanks
