difficult to diagnose by e-mail but....
If the noise dissappears when you dip the clutch = drive train related, as even in neutral with the clutch up (no feet on pedal) you've drive going into the box.
So, could be rattle of bolts holding the box to the torque tube - easy to check 4 x 19mm (might be one that's an allen key bolt).
Working backwards into the gearbox, it could be the connector shaft that connects the torque tube to the gearbox (unlikely be could be)
Then you're into the gearbox itself - input shaft bearings etc - don't know the gearbox internals well enough to comment.

Could be a case of "they all do that"! Mine certainly rattles a bit in neutral, but there have been discussions on here before, the consensus was, I think, just a gear rattling on the layshaft. I expect Paul will be along soon to confirm that...
The story was, I recall, that it was a common enough problem when the cars were new for Porsche to eventually refuse warranty claims on it. On the plus side it doesn't seem to be something that gets worse quickly (mine hasn't over 4 yrs), so if this is what you've got then maybe not to worry...if it's getting worse then go ahead and worry!
You'll also find on here that plenty of people recommend a change of transmission oil, often recommending Swepco (available from Berlyn Services?). At the very least check the oil level in the 'box first!

When was the clutch last changed if ever? Not sure if Swepco will help much..

1 - from cold little noise when hot more noticeable.
2- I changed the gearbox oil 3 weeks ago,fully synthetic 70w -90.
3 - checked history and last oil change at 151K 2 yrs ago castrolsaf-xj 75w-140.
4 - clutch replaced 60k ago.
5 - clutch and gear change are fine.
So appears to be related to the box and noisier when hot , a bit of noise since I have had the car ( 6wks) but definitely more noticeable since oil change.

If there is some play and worn gear in the box then fully synthetic oil may well be way too thin hence the more noise when hot and since you carried out the oil change.
Put some thick stuff back in the 20+ old metal cogs[

Can you get the car up on a lift (or over a pit) and pinpoint where the noise is coming from? Either have a listen next time if goes in for an MOT or slip your local garage a fiver and ask to use their ramp for 5 minutes.
The drivechain is pretty long (clutch to gearbox output) and you will easily narrow down the rough area the rattle is coming from.
Oli.
