Noisy Rear Wiper

Has anybody got a solution to a noisy rear wiper motor.
Would good old thick grease be an idea [8|]

Alternatively - removing it all together could be an option and use Rainex. What would be a good choice of bung if I were to do this.

I removed mine when the motor packed in (having been very noisy for a while!) I cant say I miss it and the car looks a bit neater without it. I ordered the various parts for the 968CS bung from OPC. Rainex definitely works well, although I havent put any on for a while and even without it visibility is ok.

I removed mine when it stopped working a couple of years back, and the car looks loads better without it, also I consider it to be on the wrong side. You can get little rubber bungs from any car parts shop, just select the right size and push it in. Andrew S at Promax was getting in some proper bungs though for just this job.

I used 2 of the largest aerial hole bungs from Halfords assorted pack - 19mm or something? I cut the inner part off one and glued it to the back of the other and they have been fine. I haven't driven the car with them in yet though (but it has bee outside in the rain).

I would just like to say, I'm a fan of the rear wiper! (like the sunroof)
Although it would be better if it had speed settings and actually wiped in the area the driver views

I agree it is on the wrong side for right hand cars.

I have just got a donor wiper to mess about with. The problem is that the axis point should be another 10cms to the right so it would sweep in the correct area.
Of course you can't drill another hole.
You can I believe get an inch longer wiper than the twenty which would help slightly (that would make it twenty one inches in total, in case you fell asleep). I put some longer ones on the front but the extra length went bottom side as oppose to top, therefore if the rear was the same it would not make any difference.
It would also be possible to extend the arm itself by a couple of cms.
Thirdly, you can move the axis.
What I was looking at, is to cam the arm so it would extend on the sweep. It may be possible to use something from another vehicle.
Look at these blades http://www.spectrumblades.co.uk/ v. expensive mind. Rice or nice?
Have I just said all that out loud?[]

Wizard, it's easy to take the cover off and you may get a better idea of what is causing the noise. It's not the blade itself is it? (said trying to keep on thread) There seems to be a couple on ebay at the moment.

Just got to work out a delete for the rear washer jet[;)]

Thanks for the replies guys.
Darren - I have taken the cover off and sprayed silicon lube in there, but had no effect. It's so loud that trying to determine where it comes from is impossible.
The noise is definately from the motor, I can't think of how to describe what it sounds like but it is very loud and passer bys give you strange looks!
I will probably wait for it to pack up now then delete it.

Thanks for your post. I have just had mine replaced as it didnt work when I got the car and can't believe how noisey it is. I thought they had put a duff motor in.

Did you manage to quiet it down any or did you take it out?

Hi Jez - I have left it in for the moment whilst it still works.
What sort of noise is yours making?

I tried some silicon lube on it but made very little difference so was wondering if good old thick grease would be suitable.[8|]
Haven't got round to doing it yet.

I'm a fan too.

I put a 24" wiper on the rear. Looks fine, fits no prob and (obviosuly) clears a far larger area. The original was rubbish, but this makes it at least useable.

Not the best pic, but gives you an idea CLICK You might even squeeze a 25" wiper on there (if you can get them?).

Being a pedantic old git, a blade an 1 inch longer will only add 1/2 inch to the sweep.

I'd be happy even with an extra half inch wiping over my rear [;)]
I have replaced the rubber washers on mine as they were abit worst for wear. I noticed when it was stood in the rain, it would leak slightly. [;)]

Siggy,
What is your S2 look-a-likey like?

I deleted mine as well without wash it is not so usefull and rainx does the job, even without it rain will clear once you are moving. Having seen the thread on rennlist (one front wiper) I looked at my front screen yesterday and the passenger wiper is very close to central, a single arm would disturb the airflow over the car less when parked and reduce the weight and remove the troublesome drivers side linkage so it has me thinking.

Do you find you have problems with air flow over the car when parked?[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]On a more serious note I have thought of this already but shyed away because if the prevalence of single wipers in chavdom. I guess without neon washer jets it might look a bit unique though.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Yes the leaves get caught in the disturbed air and drop down into the scuttle area [:)]

I think it might not notice too much if parked low rather than straight up the screen, some mercs and jags only have one after all,
