Noisy relay - hand brake/turn indicators

Does anyone have a noisy relay, the one that controls both the hand brake warning light and the turn indicators?

Mine makes a noise as it flashes the "hand brake on" warning light on the dash; it does not make the noise when flashing the indicators. The noise it makes is like a small creak, or even a croak!

The relay concerned is located behind the speedometer, and can be accessed from the front boot.

I have been told that it is a common problem and that replacing the relay may not cure it. Also that the noise is not indicative of the relay about to fail.

Has anyone had the same noise, and found a fix for it? I think the relay is quite expensive, so I don't want to replace it just to find that nothing changes.
