Noisy roof in cabrio

Hellow everyone!
I forward my question to 997 Cabrio owners.
Recently I tried 2 997 Cabrios and both of them produced quite noticable noice coming from the roof when you drive in roof closed position. I have only Boxter experience with cabrios and I did not have this problem with it.
Is it a price you pay for having a 997 cabrio or the roofs just need some maintenace?

Thanks in advance!

I had a 996 Cab and currently have a 997 Cab and never had any problems with Wind noise ( Except after a Curry, but you can't blame the roof for that).

I think it may be a question of adjustment.

Tony, thank you.
I probably did not make myself clear. I did not mean the wind noise. I meant noise coming from the roof parts themselves (kind of squeaks)

I have a 996 C4 cabriolet. A bit of creaking from the dash board and occasional creaks from the wind deflector - but nothing whatsoever from the hood itself. No squeaks, no unpleasant sounds!

Perhaps the demonstrators you have driven need some TLC or minor adjustments. Any new car like that should not give cause for such complaints.

My 997 cabrio hood squeeked like buggery from new and the OPC never really sorted it. The noise came from just beside my right ear! Sold the car in March so it's now someone else's problem.

I've had my 997 cab for nearly a year now and had no problems with the hood on normal road surfaces, on poor bumpy road surfaces sometimes had a noise from rear nearside corner but nothing to shout about.

Hi Ach,

In the 996 there were some rattles and clonks from the bodyshell, but not the roof.

In the 997's that my Son and I drive the roof structure is silent except if you hit a dirty great pothole !

I had a bad squeak, took it to OPC and they went to work - checked the roof and inserted some padding around the rear panels. Apparently this is a known issue as the car trim settles, and it just needs a bit of fettling. Not a squeak since. No charge either!

Had my 997 cab for four years now.

Coming up to one year old, thought I had a mouse stuck somewhere in the roof mechanism. OPC sorted it under warranty with 'some adjustment' and it has been fine since.

Had a 997 2S Cab since new in March '08. Done nearly 9K miles and not had a single squeak yet. Having read the above, I'm now thinking it will happen in time :-/ So far, so good though!

I had a noisy roof problem with a Boxster S. Cause was simply dust/dirt getting into the window seals and along the top edge of the windscreen. Initially I thought the noise was coming from the struts within the roof and it needed stripping down and tightening up. Cambridge OPC sorted it out with helpful advice about keeping the insides of the seals clean and lubricated. I think they used WD40 but I got some Holts silicone lubricant and rubbed it inside occasionally as well as sprayed the joints where the roof folds (in various stages of operation), and also wiped along the window/roof edge seal. It solved the problem, and proved to me that where you are certain the noise is coming from is quite often not the real location.
Worth trying as a solution, it is not expensive.
Not a problem now as I changed it for a Cayman S, but still miss the open air on glorious (few and far between) days.
