As with previous years we would like to support a charity through various activities in the year and I would ideally to support a local charity based in the region. We usually get a number of suggestions and then choose one. This year I like to have a nomination process and then hold a vote, probably via a poll on the forum. So please add your suggestions to this thread. The nomination process will be open until the next club meeting.

I would like to nominate Snappy York (link here) who provide play and activities for children and young people with special needs in York. They are a voluntary organisation that does a really good job and is always in needs of funds.

I wish to nominate the Childrens Cardiac Unit (ward10) at Leeds General Infirmary.

A few of you are aware that our 8 year old grandson, Declan was born with a heart 'problem'. Over the years he has been admitted to ward 10 for several procedures, culminating in the 'big one' which was 3 weeks ago. He was in theatre for over 12 hours while his little heart was 'fixed', he was discharged 6 days later and all is well with him, Hopefully he will not require any more surgery for several more years.

To walk on that ward is a very humbling experience, the infants range from new borns, to Declans age, many who have problems far, far more severe than he has. The sad thing is it is always full of patients, I didnt realise that so many kids were affected with heart complaints. The upside is that the mood on the ward is always very upbeat, from the wonderful staff to the patients and their families. It truly is an amazing, inspirational place....

Any monies raised for the ward are always put to good use and always for the benifit of the children.

My two penneth.....
