Non Starter!

My normally very reliable and lovely 993S doesn't want to start! Lots of battery, lots of engine turning ... but no firing! I have had a situation in the past where the car failed to start on the first turn and then refused completely. I seem to recall this was because the engine management system thought the car was already running or something similar. It got over it on that occassion but is not playing this time!

All feedback, suggestions and ideas are most welcome.

BTW I have disconnected the battery for a few days in the hope that this may somehow help but ... no joy.
 
Have you tried replacing DME relay? They cost about £20 and even if it turns out to be something else its always worth having a spare.
 
It's the relay that powers up the Digital Motor Electronics (i.e. the ECU or engine control unit). Failure of this (and it's not that uncommon) can cause a failure to start.

If a new DME relay doesn't sort it (and I hope it does) then have a look at the dizzy caps. Probably not a crack in the outside or it would start when dry, but the contacts in the cap might be worn to nothing.
 

Last time this came up on the forum it turned out to be a faulty fuel pump. The car was driven into the garage fine, left for a short while (a couple of weeks I think) and then wouldn't start. Similar symptoms to what you have here plus similar to a faulty DME relay
