HELP
I have a 3.2 Carrera sport coupe 1987. Car has been lying in a garden unused for 3 years prior to me giving it a new home. Now attempting life saving surgery!

I have changed all fuels and oils, oil seals and fuel and air filters, used jumper wires on terminals 87 and 30 to test fuel pump which is working, replaced DME relay (new) which clicks when ignition turned on, fuel pump does not prime, HOWEVER, it does prime when I separate relay slightly and take an earth from bodywork and touch terminal 85 (i think it is 85 it is the one on the middle between 87 and 30. Any ideas what is causing this is it a simple earth problem or is it something in the ECM, electrics puzzle me.

Thanks

The DME relay has two relays in the one case. The first relay is energised when the key is turned, this supplies power to the DME. The DME then energises the fuel pump relay. The click your hearing will be the first relay pulling in. It sounds as if the DME is not calling for the fuel pump to start. As I recall the DME needs to see the engine turning over before it energises the relay. It might be the engine speed sensors ? They seem to have caused a lot of problems as they seem to get crushed by corrosion products in their mounting.
